Just wondering anyone had knee cap problem ah?

I have knee cap cracking sounds for past 10yrs, i think...but only recently this 2 yrs
the cracking gets more frequent....daily and louder...as if the bones cracked. Just like
when you crack your knuckles.

Sometimes kinda painful....and i thought becoz i run thrice weekly...so decided to stop
running for a month.

But the cracking sound still persists and pain still there....
Walk up the stairs can hear the cracking sound very clearly...or bending my legs.
Siao liao lah....so young kanna arthritis???

Colleagues say lack of calcium....but i don't think young age will lack of calcium leh.
and some said cartilage wearing off.

Gonna see a specialist soon next week....

Anyone suffer the same "cracking" problem???
Whatz your solution for that?

hmm.. cartilage issue probably. or perhaps the synovial sac arnd the patella

time for some glucosamine :p

hey bro,

i got quite a similar problem about 3 years back. Turned out I had a torn meniscus so better go check. Had to remove the torn part and undergo physio for about 3 months and after that it should be back to normal although u've still gotta take care of that knee!

best is still to see what the specialist says.

take care :)

hmm......reminds me of this bruise i am having now for 3 months liao. got it while i fell down and hit the stairs.

my sister also have cracking sound in the knees, but she's a gymnast, so i guess it's pretty normal for her?

i been playing contact sports most of my life, like basketball and football. Most of my joints are creaky and at early 30s. Used to be iron man, injuries heal by themselves, now... after only a game, and i feel so fatigued and defeated, pain everywhere.

Simply rotating my ankles, bending knees, stretching elbows, fingers, toes, spine, rotating my neck, i could hear/feel the grind, creeking and crackling....

i need a whole body makeover....need to zhng oredi. haaa :bsmilie:

Sound like a worn out knee, if pain exist then the bones are rubbing against the nerve, take care.

So you went for surgery?

Don't mind taking medicine or undergo physio....as long don't go for surgery.
The last time i had a jaw surgery....is a nightmare in my life.

Very scare to hear "You need a surgery!"

I use to have this problem and it worsen after a basketball game(which i haven't played in a long while). Pain was rather acute for a couple of weeks, but seems to have disappeared after taking loads of glucosamine. Now I can go back to running 3 times a week, but don't dare to touch basketball liao :bsmilie:

since i went into army, it became worst till today it does not heal at all....cant even do shutter run now..sian 1/2

I would think it is due to the cartilage wearing off. I have the same problem.

You will probably need to take xrays for both the knees and that will show whether it is really the cartilage wearing off. You can usually see that the knee caps will be rubbing or very close to your bones, and that causes the pain and sound. Actually the best way to confirm the diagnosis is via doing a scope, but I don't think you would really want to go thru the pain and also the costs of doing that.

The doctor will probably ask you to take some supplements to encourage the growth of the cartilage and wearing kneee bracings will help to reduce the impact, especially during sports. The problem is usually caused by overweight (if you are), ie the pressure of the upper body compresses and also adds impact to the knee areas and causing it to be worn out faster, or, doing too much high impact sports when you are young.

And if you, ahem, looking for a downgrade, while serving our great nation, this may be something that you would want to pursue. It's not easy, especially if the extent of your wear and tear is not significant, but of course powerful letters will bring you to places :) ... of course if that's what you want

Extremely familiar - Sounds like Chrondomalacia Patella? I used to have the same problem.

My suggestion? Consult an orthopedic specialist.
If anyone's interested in consulting a specialist and wants recommendations, the specialist that I went to was a Senior Consultant Seow Kang Hong at SGH. Nice friendly guy and is a do things chop-chop with no fuss.

My surgery was done by him too. Gets it all fixed really quick.

I also have cracking sound most of the time and sometimes it's quite loud.
If continuous standing or walk for 30mins, I will start to feel pain in both my knees.
Went to the specialist and also gone through an operation, but still can't cure.

The doctor had told me my cartilage had worn out.
Advice from them, don't do jogging as you will cause more damage.

Same with me but it affect my left knee more. Most of the time there is no pain. Occasionally slight pain on my left knee. I have since changed my running routine from 10km twice weekly to 3-5km four times weekly and occasionally do 7-8km. Basically I break up the distance into shorter interval.

Can’t take long distance nowadays. :(
