Can anyone recommend a good car rental company in NZ? Something like Bayswater in Perth - Cheap and Good :)

These guys www.ezy.co.nz were pretty good and respectable. You'll see a lot of their cars going around.

When I rented with them, they had amongst the best rates, even taking your car on the ferry was free. They also had a fleet of new cars. That about about 2 years back.

If you are going south Island only , I recommend http://www.anzed.co.nz/ , speak to teddy, malaysian chinese migrated to NZ. Free airport pickup/drop off at Christchurch Airport. Wide range of cars from budget to Luxury . Comprehensive insurance coverage , snow chain for winter months ,mobile phone and and a RICE COOKER thrown in ~! . Early booking discount somemore.

I rented a toyota RAV4 for 13 days plus addition excess coverage (NZ$10+ / day iirc) for about NZ$800+. IMO , get a SUV for the off trail experience ~!

Hi There,

Renting car / campervan?

I rented from Nationwide Car Rental during my visit last May. They have a very good customer service and the most important: relatively new and reliable cars. They even give me a good discount.

I rented a Corolla Kanagawa and I am fully satisfied. Don't forget to rent the GPS unit... It was VERY helpful to help you navigating NZ.

They also have free airport pickup and drop off, and you can also rent and return in different location.

For campervan, try ACE rental.

Thanks megaweb but I'm looking for recommendations with first hand experience on the particular rental company. Certain rental companies are good in advertising but the service experience sucks in insurance coverage, breakdown, hidden charges, etc.
Mine was rented from Omega Rental Cars Ltd in 2006. Cheap and good service.

1.8L auto nissan bluebird sedan
NZ$59 + NZ$8 (insurance ) / per day

They picked my wife and me up at the CC airport to collect the car and return the car back to them by parking at the CC airport carpark.

So far never heard of bad service of NZ rental car yet.

I tried National Car Rental during my visit to South Island in 2002. Good service, I got the package deal via Chan Bros though, together with air tix & some room nights.

Yeah was thinking of the camperavan also which I saw in the NZ travel documentary. Anyone got any experience on that? How easy to get a place to park that thing and knock off? :bsmilie:

To all,

Thanks for the info!!

not bad for another kind of experience, but if u are going on a honeymoon , clear with your CO 1st hahaha. Basically need to drive in some holiday park to recharge/drain off waste , some roads can be rather challenging for campervan. I remembered a campervan toppled on the way to nugget point as the road was way too steep for urban drivers  . Most major city/town will have some sort of holiday park ,Queenstown , Te Anau , no worries abt that.
