Who has bought the 16-50 2.8 and what do you think?

Then just go and buy lah. It's a very good lens, pricey, but worth it if you need SDM and weather sealing
I won't have SDM or weathersealing since i use a K100D

In that case, you probably don't need the lens right now. Might just wait until you've upgraded a camera with SDM support

Optics wise, I feel its better than 16-45.. but in term of Focus Speed.. slightly or maybe Marginal.. so since you dun have SDM, dun bother.. SDM only make Focus sounds Smoother..hopefully they will have new firmwares that makes its focus speed faster...:think:

on focus speed - how does it compare to focus speed of a 50 1.4?
The difference in focusing speed between the DA16-45 and DA*16-50 wide angle zoom is in my view not that significant. However focusing speed on the DA*50-135 telezoom is definitely fast. So I would conclude that SDM really shines on the tele end. Frankly I'm not too concerned with focus speed but on focus accuracy (i.e. no front or back focusing).
well, I don't have a 16-45, a 17-70, or anything wider than a 50 1.4, other than the kit lens.
The kit lens is really quite slow, and quite unsharp, at 18/3.5.
Hence i'm looking for a more travelly option. I do think that the pentax isn't priced as well as it could be - but perhaps it really is pretty expensive to manufacture. Aiee. decisions decisions.

The pentax 16-45, sigma 17-70, 18-50 are all very decents. For travel i think you can consider the 17-70.
