Hi all

This is my first post at critque corner. I am trying to replicate this
stair.JPG

i like the effect very much. But I don't think I am going to any exotic places any time soon.

So this is what I come up with at a HDB block :bsmilie:
stairs_a.JPG

What do you all think about this photo?

I find the railing messes up with the stair steps with the metallic edges. The example you attached you can see the lines are vry distinct and does not mix over to the flooring. SO you end up having a feeling that it looks like a marine shell with those geometric lines and curve dividing up the entire scene. Not sure if I eplain that well.

Sharpness is not there too or you were focus on the railing further down the stairs. I twisted your photo from a landscape to a portrait shot and I think if you line your camera just right, it looks better then landscape. Make the twirling railing to look like a window to another window to another window...and so on and so on. That might look more interesting. It also might look a tab better in black and white.

Hey sammy888

Thanks for your comments. I know what you mean....i'll try to take the photo again to see if there are any improvements.

Where do you think is a better focus point for this scenario?

well the most workable focus is the spiral railing so something that get you almost directly over the top of the spiral wall which is very dangerous for you heheheh...think only Superman can float there to shoot it heheh

But if you can get a balance spiral effect to form almost like a "window within a window within a window" type of angle might be better PLUS...position and centering the spiral will also make the lines of the staircase edges of each step more "orderly"

oh ya...try to set your AF to manual. this will make it easier to prevent your AF from focusing alll over the shop ...maybe that is what happened to you shot. So set to manual and focus the trop railing.

Dun think you need to reshoot the pic again. I actually cropped the first set of metal railings away, leaving only the concrete part. And if you rotate it to portrait, I think it would be very much improved.

Good attempt, but..... just be careful while taking the shot at this height !

Good attempt.. but wrong height and zoon level. Give the stair- shape lesser details. It will help better.

Thanks to all for your C & C.
