Hi,
I wonder what is the best RAW processing program?
I have used Rawshooter from Pixmantec earlier but as Adobe bought it there are not any more updates to support new RAW formats
I tried Adobe Lightroom 1.1 but personally I don't like it. It seems that it is really done for general audience. My expectation was that it would be close to Rawshooter. Here is few point why I didn't like it:
1) Database feature - in Rawshooter all the changes done for the pics were stored in the sub-directory of the directory were pictures were. It was easy to copy those small files to another computer - I often use my laptop to do first edit while travelling and then continue back home. Any possibilities to do that in Lightroom? Earlier also Adobe PS behaved similar and stored modification files to same directory as the original file. I don't know what happens to the corrections I made if I move the location of original files in HDD, e.g. when buying new HDD and moving all the pics to that HDD?
2) White balance tool - you can only pic one point from the pic and if it was not correct one then you have to click the tool again. I found it annoying as you may have to select it several times. Is there a setting to change the behaviour?
3) In develop phase the tools on the right hand side - you cannot fit all the essential settings in the same screen but to reach some of those, e.g. white balance, exposure and sharpness are far away from each others. Any possibilities to customize which settings would be top of the develop tools list? And I have big screen, so there is enough area on the screen but still it does not fit nicely.
4) Cropping tool - personally I feel odd that I move the picture instead of the cropping area if I want to adjust the selected area. I guess you will used to that but it takes time. Also, I don't like that the picture is "cropped automatically" in develop window. Personally I'd like to see in the main window always that I have done some cropping. It is hard to see from thumbnails if there are some cropping applied to the pic.
5) I guess there is some short cut to many tasks but didn't have time yet to investigate. Definitely those are different than what Rawshooter Premium used to have, like automatic settings (ALT-A in Rawshooter) and processing of the current file (INSERT). Does the full version have good manual with?
Those who have used Rawshooter earlier, what was your selection for new Raw processing program?
I have seen some people recommend Capture One. Those who have used that could you comment how Capture One behaves in the above situations?
Are there any other programs in addition to Capture One to handle whole workflow from selecting and rating to pictures to edit and process and finally to output the pics in the desired format?
