I hate presentation. But always got to do.

:bsmilie: Yeap, part of working life. Sometimes you not only have to present, but also defend what you are presenting. You have to hit back with a solid answer.

I mean those presentations which required you to stand in front of the audience. Not sit down besides your clients like insurance agent style of presentation.... I hate to stand in front. So embarrasing and I suspect sometimes my minor tremors of the hands and mouth are quite obvious.

Like it or not, it is part of the work life to do presentation, standing in front of audience. Some ppl are very good at it while some will get nervous, some will even blackout when they standup facing audience. The trick is u prepare the presentation material beforehand, rehearse a few times solo reading out loud the presentation material, if u happen to have stage fright, then puase and deep breath looking away from the audience for a shortwhile.

For me, it depends on the audience and the contents. If the presentation allows me to make a point that I consider worthwhile, and if the audience is such that the presentation can have a real impact, I am usually very motivated. Of course this requires that I have the freedom to choose how I say things.

If I had to present something that I personally don't agree with, or just canned CorpComms/Marketing drivel, I would hate it. Fortunately, my employer gives me the necessary freedom.

Well...it is like riding a bike...Once you have done it a few times, it gets easier.

There is a tip which I have heard many times to get over your nervousness that is to imagine the whole room of people naked. heheh I don;t know it has never worked for me but it might for others heeee....

But seriously, the best way to fight the fear or dread? KNOW YOUR TOPIC inside out, front and back and believe in it enough. We are usually nervous due to our lack of confidence on the topic, we think someone might pop you a question and kill your whole presentation, you second guess yourself..etc. There are technique you can learn to help you with your presentation and showmanship but without the facts...you will not make it thru one smoothly.

i love giving presentations actually, esp on subjects of my expertise. i like challenging questions as well though.

maybe i'm just wierd

i really enjoy presentations. its a great way to communicate ideas. people probably hate presentations because they're not comfortable with making one.

no need to defend your points; can't stand those people who will die die argue their own point when its obviously stupid. have the courage and grace to acknowledge mistakes or an alternative point of view.

after all, presentations are usually starting points for discussions.

No. I don't like to present something in front of a group of people (i.e. classmates). However, I do like making PowerPoint slides. I prefer to do those not so much attention work... I always stammer and feel very nervous when doing presentations.
