If you intend to let others view but forbid them to copy.......Nope, there is no easy to do this.
But if you are just trying to prevent unauthorized copying, just encrypt the files with password and provide the password only those authorization to view the files.

I'm engaged to be a photographer for an orchestra, the members would like to purchase photos in a cd but I was wondering how can I prevent them from copying from the cd? I won't want to sell just 1 cd with the photos and then that's it.

You are heading in to an area where you start to know how hard it is for producers of intellectual property to safe guard their sale profits and livelihood.
The one simple way I would think solve this is to tackle this at the begining of your negotiation with the company or the orchestra. Charge them a fix fee and work in the cost of producing an "X" amount of CDs as part of the package. That will help you cover your cost ...etc.
If you want to make money by charging it base on "per CD" sale...I don't think it will be workth your time and cost. It matters little EVEN IF you managed to protect the CD with like a special password since...DUPLICATING the CD and then providing the password to whoever you pass the copy too will make your password protect useless in one second!
You can sell original large Prints but if it on a CD...it it way too easy to copy or hack and break. Alternatively give the CD for free but with all the picture in low 72 dpi preview picture size which is fine for viewing on a PC monitor but not good enough to print out a large A3 size print..etc.
The other fellow forum suggested to make a slideshow and then lock it so they can not copy it makes sense ..but only to a certain extent. That being...if all they want is just to see a slide show on their PC or TV...well they can always DUPLICATE the slideshow CD you sold him/her and pass around to other friends to copy more copies and keep one each.
What most creative or production companies dealing in this would rather work out is a production package and including an agreed upon number of copies and let THEM take care of the copyright and duplication control.
If you want to sell the CD yourself to make extra money well...unless you want to invest in more consideration and hardware..etc. Any solution you might come up with to do so will make it not worth the effort.

but he doesn't want them to pakat and just buy one cd from him and then mass produce amongst themselves to save $

It is a problem and a partial fix is to give out order forms and make it very clear that they must be returned by a certain date. Do not send out any CDs to people who return order forms early and then after the closing date, send out the CDs. It won't stop people who get together and decide to just buy one copy and then copy it but it might help generate more orders.

Sometimes i pass the photo in a self written slide show application which is encrypted and printable to client. They can copy all they want, but the software only runs on their PC for a period of time defined. There are several pros and cons to it though but it gets them to paid up usually after the period lapse for free photo viewing (esp those who love to copy but do not want to pay).
Of course, there are no fool proof methods. Even CD copy protection , can be "broken". Selling prints will reduce convenience of copying.
This kind of deal is negotiated worngly, sure will end up this way one.
If you know it's gonna be like this, then you should have upfront offered a "package" price that includes x numbers of CDs in the first place.
Else, you value add now would be selling prints... pics in CD only allows screen saver size or print 3R size.
Yup that' what I'm getting at, but not in Singapore, in Kangaroo land.........cheapskates are not bounded by national borders.
as long as u provide the pics in a CD, there is no way to stop copying, especially if the 'cheapskates' are enterprising enuf. a simple CloneCD/DVD program will break any encryption.
if encryption or any copy protection is fool-proof, we won't be seeing 'friendly' copies on yahoo auction or ebay, would we?
