Was at at Chua Chu Kang orchid nursery last Saturday. Was trying out some macro shots on flowers on bright daylight........as i am still relatively new in photography, i am posting a macro shot and asking for advises on this shot to improve myself........many, many thanks in advance......:D

Shot taken on a canon S5IS under super macro mode.

sry, but i really dont see an outstanding focal point in your pic. you could have focused on only one of the flowers, thus eliminating other distractions. (i dont think you could do that this close on your PnS). otherwise, the DOF is nice and sharp, and the colours not too bad

he's using a prosumer.. not a PnS..

anyway ur rite.. should have went closer... background is messy and distracting.
 

Too many distracting elements. If the center flower is your main subject, maybe cropping it during post processing may help.
 

Pic is too distracting with the messy background... use a smaller f stop! Keep shooting
 

Thanks to all the advice given......going closer to the flower will be a bit difficult as my lens was already about 2cm away from it....the size of each flower is about less then a cm in diameter......maybe will try to crop the pic n see how.....will also try smaller f stop to see whether i could isolate this flower from the rest......do not really noe the limitation of the S5IS......will keep on shooting......again:many, many thanks again for all the good advice.......by the way just a pic to show u guys how the actual stalk of flower looks like(I hope the moderators here won't mind)
