With all the rumbling now at the other camps, why is it still so quiet at Pentax?

Who cares?

A good camera remains a good camera, even after all the K200 K300 K80000000 has come out.

Actually the Pentax K100D and K10D took a while to come out and I attribute that to trying to play catch-up with Canon and Nikon. But I'm glad the cameras were winners when they came out. Pentax may be slower of the mark in their product rollout but to me that's a good thing because if it's done right, the camera doesn't become obsolete so quickly.

Just look at Canon, no sooner than a particular camera model is introduced before the next iteration shows up barely 18 months or so later with some small incremental improvement. Or Nikon with their D40 and D40X being introduced so close together. The big 2 may introduce newer models but knowing their pricing, it won't come cheap. And they are launching now in anticipation of the year-end shopping season.

Unless you're a gearhead chasing after the newest stuff and paying a lot of money to be an early adopter, Pentax remains the best bang for the buck.

Just stay on tight in your camp to wait and wait if you can

However, if cannot resist.........just jump la! :bsmilie:

Well that's what I like about Pentax dSLRs. The models are stable, maybe sometimes with different flavours(Super,GP,LE), but still essentially from the same base mould.

Lets not forget the *ist D/DS/DL/DL2/DS2 era too quickly...

Pentax does not have the muscle and deep pockets to keep on supporting many segments.
So its smart to focus their limited support to 2 really great lines, the K100D and K10D series and their derivatives. Having too many models means their engineers would have to be split amongst them. Maybe they will just indulge their fans by releasing the 50th anniversary model to steal just a little thunder from the C, N and O announcements.
Frankly also, their P&S lines aren't doing well, and they should stop releasing too many models and instead focus on making a few desirable ones for their target market.

So - tell me how to get a weathersealed, 24-75mm effective, f/2.8, stabilized, lens + body from anywhere else? :p

maybe after the grand prix version, they will release a white "ipod" version or a special transparent edition! Had Shriro been imaginative, maybe even release a National Day editon with half red and half white! :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Bah.... that's the kind of CnB story the likes of Microsoft would have you believe. Look at Apple, they don't release new systems as often as other computer makers, but the Mac has been merrily making a comeback. All Pentax needs to do is to continue to make good cameras and snazz up its marketing.
