Do you know that once upon a time, the bicycles must have Licence Number plate?

Yes, and bicycles only allowed to ride on the roads, not on pavement.

my father still kept a very old number plate. anyone want to buy? :bsmilie:

you can engraved a "ic number" on your bicycles. Some NPCs got these services..:)

And THAT SHOULD STILL BE SO!....and worst they actually start to now ride them along the entrance area of shop houses at the void deck and like they own it. I wish they bring the licencing back and impose more fines on this people. In the last 2 yrs this is getting out of hand.

Don't get me wrong.... I am myself a 20+ years road and moutain biking person and I still ride on the road and get off and push my bike when I get to a walk way or common areas of shop houses and flats.

Okay rant ended......*get off my soap box*

I lost my old licence plate years ago...would have been great to still that....

worse...they ride (WITHOUT SLOWING DOWN), zipped into the BUS STOP and everyone have to jump out of their way.!

Cyclist cycle on the pavement, also bo pian although I am against it in the first place. But when u saw motorcyclist on pavement, u more fedup. No choice la, unless every where got TP, if not, we got to bear with it. Don't tell me that u want to take law on ur own hand is it? ;p

currently, cyclists are taking the laws into their own hands, like, eg. riding against the flow of traffic, riding across pedestrains crossings, etc.

there was once my guy friend (who is big big size) stopped a cyclist who keep rudely ringing his bells and attempt to hit and scare any pedestrian who did not give way to him. he did not show any paiseh and yah yah say "why not?"...until auntie me approach him and tell him off too. he sian liao and push his bike out of the pavement and ride on the road... cursing and cursing ..i can hear...:sweatsm:

Yes, and the number is also engraved onto the frame of the bicycle. I had a chopper when I was a kid, the BMX was not invented yet. It got stolen, and I went with my dad to make a police report. The police asked for the number, I thought to myself, WTF, anybody can change the plate number and nobody will know. License plates on bicycles was a stupid thing anyway.

bicycle still only allowed to ride on the roads... except for Tampenies

No one gives a damn care abt this. Even those who are young n rides a good bicycle. Really want to stop him, hold his bicycle, call the police, haha! :bsmilie:

My view is, cyclists should only be allowed to ride on the road if they pass the highway code and obtain a license. Putting license plates on the bicycles is not a bad idea. We should bring it back.

My first bike had a licence plate. That tells you how old I am.

The licence plate was for the bicycle, not for the rider. It simply indicated who owned the bike. You did not need a riding licence then, neither do you need one now.

well perhaps if Singapore roads were more conducive to bicycles on the road we would have more cyclists actually cycling on the road?
We should be encouraging cycling as an alternative to driving, not discouraging it by implementing restrictions on it.

I ride on pavements too sometimes when traffic is too fierce to handle.
When you have a double decker bus on your tail wanting to charge you down, sometimes you tend to go on the pavement.

I do believe that most cyclists would love to cycle on the road if cyclists were given more respect on the roads. I was cycling around Newton Circus a few days back and this car which obviously saw me just cut into my path and I nearly crashed into him.

that's my sayang bicycle still left in my room, hardly used..:bheart:

no matter what, I still think it is skill that is the most impt, not law. :)
