Dry cabinet

To all pro, need your help here.

Recently just bought a EOS 400D, 17-85mm IS lens and a 550EX flash. I notice that most of the pro are recommended to store the stuff into a dry cabinet. Below is my concern about the dry cabinet.

1) Beside the camera body and the lens, is that necessary to store the flash unit into the dry cabinet?

2) I have done a market survey for the dry cabinet at Courts Tampenies, they are selling Akarui digi dry cabinet at $98 (23L) and $135 (38L), is it worth to buy? Or any pro can advice me which brand of dry cabinet is more worth to buy and where to buy?

Not necessary

Have you considered Digicabi? It is good too..

Fungus growth happens on lens. Flash does not has any lens in it and dry cabinet is for controlling the humidity.

Usually electronic products are designed to handle 95% humidity.

Actually it can happen anywhere. But the fact is that flashes operate at a hot temp, so the chances of that happening is lowered. So note that some flashes have a zoom head and may require some care on that too.

Thanks for the pro reply and suggestions. That mean there is no harm to store the flash unit in the dry cabinet? Am i right to say that?

None that I know of... But if you're gonna keep the flash for a long period of time, do remember to take out the batteries.

Even the 38l one is quite small, you may wish to get something a little bigger

Yep agree. Always try to get a bigger dry cabinet than what you need. This will cater for any future expansion.

agree...i so small i cannot put in the lens hood...

Is Toyo is around, my cabinets from them 70-80l made in Japan ones are already at least 8 yrs old and running well

Digi-cabi is pretty ok. Been using it for years and no problems. I'd go for a 60L one so at least you'll have space for future gear. The newer models also have reinforced roofs which allow you to stack them on top of each other should you need to add on another one in the future.
