Is Isreal truely a country? Seems alot like the Taiwan and China Issue.

Well, by UN definition, it certainly is a nation... Interesting history on Wikipedia Israel

According to Biblical tradition, the united Kingdom of Israel was established by the Hebrew tribes with Saul serving as its first king in 1020 BCE. In 1000 BCE, Jerusalem made the capital of King David's kingdom and it is believed that the First Temple was constructed in this period by King Solomon.[13] By 930 BCE, the kingdom was split into two kingdoms: the northern Kingdom of Israel, and the southern Kingdom of Judah.

ISREAL IS GOD'S CHOSEN COUNTRY. READ THE OLD TESTAMENT. LAND FOR THE GENERATIONS OF ARAHAM, JACOB AND ISAAC........

Got black and white? maybe land deed or something from U know who?
Anyway history of Isreal did show that they forced their way into another nation and make it theirs.

Hi all,

As passionate about the matter as some of you are, so am i. however. lets not start what need not be started in here. enough fighting going on in that part of the world already. i'm not saying the outburst by bestfoto is good or right, but lets all just try to stay on the topic - the exhibition.

up for the exhibition.

Than I suggest that you keep your definition of Israel's identity to your own point of view because in every nations that exist today, many were established because they were either being discovered by some folks from another country or they were established after many wars were fought. Thus according to the way you define the ownership of a country, it is not just Israel that is not a country but many others too...

It belongs to whoever they drove out. ;)

This thread is to inform members of an 'exhibition', if the topic of the exhibition does not interest you or maybe even aggitate you...... please stay out of this thread lah. Let look at this objectively, its all about our hobby, lets not mix things up.

Cheers and up for the exhibition...... no hard feeling guys..... lets enjoy our hobby.

But as a photog, you should also act responsibly and give a factual title and not to distort history....agree?

I think police presence will be heavy, dont bring anything you are not supposed to have in your bags. The last time there was an exhibition of Israelite book drawings at the National Library, it was turned into a fortress with metal detectors at the gates.

Erm, I went for a look last Saturday. Great photography, of the photo-journalist variety.

Nothing so drastic in terms of security though, just like any other exhibition I've attended at the same venue previously.

As for the title of the exhibition, it's the official title, ie. "Israel - Birth of a nation".. so I don't see why it's wrong or inappropriate to refer it by the exhibition's official name here.

I am aware of the background of Israel vis a vis the Palestine-religious-historical angle, and agree it's a sensitive issue, but this is definitely not the place to discuss it or whether Israel is a legitimate 'nation' or not. Especially when such discussions can get heated.

Peace.

The Title of the exhibition is "Birth of a nation", on the struggle and the formation of Isarael as a nation........ what distortion are you referring to?? :dunno: .......

As a 'hobbyist' and amateur photographer (which I am), I would just like to concentrate on the photographs on display and 'enjoy' it..... cheers!

Don't worry and please do not make this security thing into a big mountain. There is no police presence (except for the regular security officer engaged by the Art Museum to look after the museum).

The whole exhibition is to give due recognition to two very dedicated photojournalist photographers - for their effort and dedication in capturing and reporting the events that took place during a time of identity crisis for Israel and its people - a time where family were separated and dispersed into foreign lands due to wars - and the effort to bring them back after the wars.

Go to the exhibition with an open heart and see like a photographer would. I am sure you will learn a thing or two from these two great photographers. In addition to the pictures, read the notes that described each photographs. It is very meaningful.

Those who have problem with the title should sound it to the organisers of the exhibition. Tell them about your unhappiness.

Please do not add something not relevant to this topic.

Bullshit...people here who are tryin to stir **** ain't PASSIONATE. They're either

1) just using this space to rant about things they READ sumwhere, or WATCHED on some tv channel.

2) Just trying to show how smart they are

WE don't WANNA KNOW.

And hell, we don't give a flying F

It's quite funny naming this birth of a nation. Someone really has a sense of humour.

Spare me the rant.

If you don't see the irony in the naming of the exhibition, you need more education.

Maybe you can explain what's the irony if you are so educated? You only bothered to say it's funny and irony..

BTW, many contries are form by driving other people out and then claim the land as theirs. As for Isreal, the land was originally theirs, they were driven out, and then they came back and reclaim the land. I would say it is a rebirth of a nation. That was predicted in the Christian bible, and the nation was established in 24hrs.
