My full time job now is a project engineer in IT & Electronic field, but I am considering switching to professional advertising photography as my future carrer, maybe i can join as a studio assistant or apprentice photographer. Would appreciate very much if you more experienced guys can share who those professional advertising photography studios are in Singapore. So far as I know, the shooting gallery is one of them.

I would be glad to meet up with anyone who is very passionate about going
into advertising/commercial photography. Kindly PM me your contact.

The more you know
the more you have yet to learn...
when one has committed to become
an enthusiatic student for the rest of his life.

Hello,

Besides Shooting Gallery (which is also involved in TV commercials), some of the fashion photographers like Wee Khim, Chuando, Mark Law and Geoff Ang are also very good advertising photographers. Apix, 121 Studio and Beacon Pix are some of the studios heavily involved in advertising. *Advertising photography is a closed field, meaning that it's very difficult to break into the circle unless:

a. You are a photographer with a great book, great pre- and post-production team.

OR

b. You have been working in a advertising photography studio full time for 1 year or more and have a great book. If you are really good, you will be promoted sooner or later to a full fledge photographer.

*Definition of an ad photographer: you primarily shoot for clients via established ad agencies, coupled with the usual loading fees, etc.

Best
Wes

No problem. Of all the photography fields you could have chosen, this is one of the toughest and most rewarding (in renumeration/time). You will spend a lot of blood, sweat and tears to be trained well before you can see results. I sincerely wish you the best.

Regards
Wesley

To add on to Wesley,

You must also have very good PR skills and client handling skills. We all know how the ad world is like.. hehe Experience counts and sometimes a bit of luck too:)

I'm still an assistant now, commercial photography of course.. i like your works. :)

Narloke, nowadays, getting appt no so hard like before, but with your position/experience/professional qualifications, your hardest job may be convincing the studios that you're willing to stick it out for a few years do manual labour for very low pay. Professional Asst here not like in the US, where it's very common for many of them to have high-level degrees so it's not strange for them. I not saying photo asst is labourer lah, but have to face the reality of the job requirements. No offense to anyone, especially the dedicated and professional photo assts here.

Great pleasure to have the mentors sharing experiences, thanks a lot

Aiyoh...I not anywhere near mentor status lah. Just in my previous job I had to engage and work with different photogs/studios. I oso often consider joining a pro studio, but I'm just a noob. Besides, going commercial is only a small part passion, and biiig part being an effective marketer, business professional and administrator. Love for the craft and technical competence is not usually the front-runner, because it's a given requirement.

I'm sure there are quite a few full time pro s here. Have you approached them to have a chat?

i remembered picture farm. it was willie tang's outfit.

'must have very good ....' is a bit over emphasized.
