Hi, i have question on bringing a camera oversea.

Is there a need to bring a dry box to keep the camera and lenses?

How long would you be gone for? And to which country?

Hmm Australia around 5 days? :dunno:

Or should i ask how long can a camera left outside a dry box/cabinet?

Some parts of Aus can be very dry (very low humidity). The cameras can sit around in the open, no problems at all. It's the high humidity that allows fungus to grow.

Also, if you are using the camera daily, the risk of growing fungus is greatly reduced.

 seems like there's lot of things to learn...

Hihi..

What about Shanghai?? bout 3~6 mths?

Depending on the time of the year. e.g. winter would be the dryest.
But overall, dryer than Singapore.

I was studying in Melbourne for 4 years and didn't need any dry cabinets for my cameras then! Think about it, my crackers could be left exposed overnight and they would still be crunchy/crispy the following afternoon! :bsmilie:

In Singapore, I would not go near than 2 days out of a dry cabinet.
But with this said, fungus do not appear overnight, it'll take a prolonged exposure to moisture and temperature for the spores to germinate. As long as the conditions are right, fungus would appear.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Guess have to do homework on the weather on a particular country before planning what things to bring along

what about japan, hongkong and philipines? i will be going for about 1 month

What are u there for anyway? Should not be any problem in Japan. For the rest, maybe you can check the avg relative humidity.

i was in japan last week, during typhoon season, no dry box, only a crumpler bag.. just wipe dry the cam after shooting.. =)
