I saw 2 dogs left in the car park today. Felt that car owners should be educated not to leave kids / pets in the car parked with the engine off, esp under the hot sun. Remember reading an article that an owner left their husky in the car (in Singapore).

I am glad that it is a cooling weather when this happen, otherwise the sun may provide some unpleasant consequences for the poor animals.

What makes you think the owner would do the same in hot weather? Jumping to conclusions friend..

going by that train of thought: what makes you think they won't either?

Good point, maybe the owners left the animals in the car because it was raining and the car won't be so hot.

'Train of thought' is wrongly used here. Train of thought describes a string of thoughts produced by linking one thought to the next. I only presented a single perspective. Using 'perspective' would have been much more suitable.

Anyway, who in god's green earth ever suggested that I assumed they wouldn't do that in hot weather? I'm not the one posting threads about how this owner or that owner wouldn't be leaving pets in the car in warm weather. Sheesh.

Let me make it a little easier to understand. A soldier is guarding a building, he sees a person approaching. He shoots the person. I tell him, 'what makes you think that person was hostile?'. Does that mean I'm assuming that that person isn't hostile? No! I'm telling the soldier that he shouldn't be immediately assuming that any approaching person is hostile. The soldier should allow the person approaching to come closer so he can properly evaluate him, but be wary of suspicious behavior while doing so. To assume the approaching person isn't hostile would be lowering his weapon and opening his arms out wide while yelling 'wassup ma nigger?!'. Keeping his weapon trained on him and not shooting him is neither assuming him to be hostile or to not be hostile. It is simply not assuming.

Well, in which sentence did i state that the mention owner would / would not do the same in hot weather ? Jumping to conclusions.

Leaving any living beings in the car , esp under frequent Singapore afternoon, is a potential harm. Try staying in a stationary car for 30 mins (with the enge off and windows wind up). See if you can tolerate the environment yourselves.

A. you're not a professor of english so don't try to correct everyone's english on here. This isn't the only thread where you've tried to correct people's english. I am using the the phrase in the correct context. So unless you can prove otherwise aside from giving me a dictionary definition that you either memorized or cut and paste, don't try to show off.

b. Even though you might not have meant it that way, you SHOULD NOT by using the N word in any context what so ever. Because you're not black and even if you are, it is a very RACIST word with alot of connotation to use in any situation. Use it in front of a black man and you can expect to be at least severely beaten up. So don't think just because they use the word in street talk or hip hop that you're allowed to use it.

c. Using your arguement you're just as guilty of assumption as we are. Only difference is that you assume that the dog owner knows better than us that they shouldn't leave the animal alone in the car with the windows completely closed. You arguement about the guard is flawed. By pointing the gun at anyone who approaches he is already assuming that the person is a foe until proven otherwise. He's just not firing at them right away.

guess this thread would be closed soon.

moderators have a tough job.. morning wake up kena this kind...

while the topic's still alive, i do leave my dog in the car, but yeah, cool weather or under cover car park and only if i don't leave the car for too long (with windows slightly wound down).

it was going ok till someone went and used the N word in my opinion. At least you do that, shows that you're a responsible pet owner :)

well, not about putting pets in car, but just the other day, while driving, i saw this idiot driver, driving with a dog on his lap and the dog happily scratching and pawing the side window... and i'm just beside him... damnit... if the dog play punk, i'm dead... how could these idiots be so irresponsible... wanna play with dog, do it elsewhere...

well i find this thread a bit off lor.

that could have been my dog in my car, and i kena...

then of course someone has to come along and define wat assumptions mean to different races and therefore we have a truly kopitiam topic. :bsmilie:

well look at it this way, if you did leave your dog in the car and had the window down abit, do you think you'll kena for negligance? i doubt it. Its not the assumptions that gets me, its the fact that a racist slur was used regardless whether it was intentional or not.

In some countries, if a pedestrian saw a dog or a child in a car with windows all wound up and engine ignition off, the pedestrian has every right to smash the "windscreen" and rescue the pet or child and call for the police to take over the matter. The car owner (or driver) can then be sued for causing undue harm or even murder if proven to be deliberated. Reason being that the driver can forget the child/pet is in the car. When the sun's heat builds up, the living toddler/pet struggles as temperatures can exceed 50deg celcius while the oxygen level drops to a dangerously low level. Worse still, CO2 building up within the trapped compartment which will kill.

In Singapore, the law is still very laxed. Perhaps the greater punishment will come when an adult loses his/her child due to negligence. A dead pet can be grieved over for a week and be replaced with cash, but a dead child can never be brought back.
