Modeling agencies *Ppl involved in Modeling industry pls help!*

Hi all, I have a friend who is keen to start up in the modeling industry but is not sure which agencies are reliable and which are not. I was hoping some of the people here would be able to help so I'm asking on her behalf.

She is very pleasant looking but not very tall (1.65m). She is slim though and has a good figure. She is local Chinese.

Which agencies should she be looking at and more importantly, which would be willing to hire her subject to viewing her personally?

Any help is very much appreciated. Also, TIA!

I'm not exactly looking for her to get hired from CS, but I wish instead to get more details about companies looking to hire models and so on so forth. I don't intend to organise a shoot with her as the model so I think in that respect I think it's unnecessary to post photos of her.

Another problem is she has not started out yet and she does not have portfolio shots. Are these very necessary when seeking a job? Or will the company prefer to produce a portfolio for their hired models themselves?

Appreciate the thought vince123123, but I'm just seeking info.

I'm hoping that those who either own agencies, know those who own agencies, work with or have worked with agencies or are currently hired by agencies will be able to help out. I know you guys are lurking around here somewhere. Please help out! TIA

ask her to call mannequin studios, make an appt to go down.
she may come under the category of talent rather than model.

other reputable agency, ave, mannequin, looque, diva, phanthom, carries, thumper (t-models), upfront.
dun bother with the rest until she finish this list.

Mannequin, elite, carries, Phantom, avenue. Try this agencies, if you friend has the quality, they will sign her up. If not dont waste time, seriously have seen tons of "pleasant looking" girls who want to be models and end up signing up packages with make over companies posing as agencies....

Correction there..... A real agency dont ask models to shoot portfolios with them. If you are model quality, they will sign u up, if not they wont even bother with you. And normally the last I heard portfolios are done in Thailand as it is cheaper to print and take snaps there. And frankly with no jobs what portfolio do you have???

I shoot portfolio for 3 of the agencies i mentioned above. I do not understand what you mean by real agency. what is your dealing with them to qualify your beliefs? You heard portfolio are normally done in Thailand??? you heard? Make sure you know 1st ok.

No job also must do portfolio so that when they go for casting, client can see str away if these gals are photogenic enuff. during a casting call, we see up to 50 girls a days, you think we have a lot of time to explore each girls best potential?

the only difference is some "bad sheep" agency make their primary profit from portfolio and they almost always, failed to land the contract. normal agencies like the big 5 or 6 get their income from actual real commercial job. they make 30% off commercial with fee up from 2.5K-100k. you think they can spare so much effort to hard sell you portfolio package? this is why it is essential to pick the right agency to go to.

what i meant is that the agency shouldn't be asking the model to pay for training or anything up front coz its a scam. there've been scams where people claim to be an agency ask the girl they try to recruit to pay them fees up front under the pretense of training etc but end up taking the money and disappearing. A model's portfolio is of course its up to her to build before seeking representation. You have a valid point about having refernece material for casting calls. But What agency exactly do you shoot with since you know the industry practice so well? Care to show some credentials to back up your claim? because anyone can claim to do what you do in your earlier post.

Actually it is not heard but it is known among models that many do their portfolios in Thailand. Cheap and good. And oh boy I do know my facts, these agencies are my suppliers. I think it is time you ask those models who do it for them in Thailand.... know your competitior as they say....

what I mean by real agencies? You know what I mean..... reputable agencies that dont tell potential models, "you shoot portfolio by our "top" photographer and do portfolio, very cheap one only few hundred dollars, guarantee you have jobs after that"

not trying to start a flame war or anything. So let's keep things simple and not leap at each other's throat even if we disagree with what's been said. We're just here to give advice to the person who's asking for it. let's keep it at that shall we?

1. the girls/ guys need to do pictures for sure. agencies normally refer them to us and they do not overcharged the girls. I know because they bargain very hard for the girls to get a good rate. the girls pay me direct so i know there is no cut t the agencies. some of them need to go through training..etc.. these type of fee are misc so i dun know abt them too much.

if you, stoned, can do a good job. please go ahead and help your friend. it may be good/ may be bad... but at least your friend got your free help. the pictures good or bad, the agency can advise her. client may advise her... so no harm, unless you really got bad taste...then sabo her. dun worry you cannot do much harm.

2. shoot in thailand for portfolio? believe what you like to, century egg. i have seen my fair share of thailand photographs. thank you for enlightening me to my ignorance of my competitors and market practise.
