Metz finally have a version of their METZ 58 AF-1 flash for the Pentax! Looks interesting and METZ flash units have far superior build quality than the Pentax AFG540.

No mention of wireless flash capability but this will be a 3rd choice of TTL flash for Pentax.

Price of the Canon/Nikon version is around $550-575... (hello K13...please bring in a few of these)

Sounds interesting. What's the availability in Singapore?

"According to the letter received by DPReview forums user Richard Day from the Technical support of German flashgun manufacturer Metz, they will introduce Pentax / Samsung digital SLR dedicated flash unit Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-1 P/S digital in the end of July, 2007 approximately.

It will be guide number 42 flashgun with full P-TTL support and wireless capabilities. Its reflector could be rotated 270 degrees horizontally and -7/+90 degrees vertically in any combinations. A unique feature is USB socket for updating flash firmware remotely over the internet. It’s expected to be cheaper than the Pentax 540 FGZ."

WOOHOO...:gbounce:

Wah lau.... Time to upgrade from my Sigma? :bsmilie:

If its working fine, leave it alone :) The Sigma is good if you get the latest revision models that work with wireless flash. Maybe I'll give Sigma a try again, unless I can get the Metz 58 for Pentax cheap (MO anyone?)

Haaa... Yeah... I better go get the firmware upgrade...
Then again, dunno if my flash already flashed to work with wireless...
My body not flashed to do wireless yet... :bsmilie:

If you don't use wireless flash, then don't upgrade your k10d (i presume yours is still at v1.10 too right)... but go update your Sigma flash anyway.

Stop wasting your time .......... use only 1st party flash units .....only Pentax understands Pentax ..... just my 2 cents worth...... and bad experience with 3rd party flashes. :what:

 Yeah, I already have the Pentax AF540FGZ and AF360FGZ flash. So not gonna waste my time on third party.:bsmilie:

But Metz has a reputation for good flashes. In those days of film camera, almost every wedding photographer uses Metz 60 or 45. I myself have gone thru 5 of them (various models). They are good solid flashes.

Erm.. this particular third-party flash is built wayyy better than the first-party units of almost any brand...

It's the TTL thingy which I am worried about ................. :)

Heard this flash will be available here in SG very soon :) Good to know there is one more flash choice for us Pentax users :D

Hope the price would be competible with the Pentax 540 flash ;p

Cheers!
