How u guys pickup photography skills? Through photography course or self learned? Mind sharing? I am new to photography dunno wat is the best way to learn.

for me , im kinda shy to ask around. when i buy my stuff 2nd hand, i do pick up some tips or two about the art of photography. also, my sis took a dip in arts(media) so she does tell me a thing or two of it .
i also self learn. read from some books like hte HWM mega guide and i spent a few thousand shutter clicks just to learn it right . am i wasting it ? no.. i feel that its kinda worth the learning experience.
put up your pics in the critique corner once a while and let the experts tell you waht to improve . but be prepared for bad remarks but its all part of the learning experience

get a book from library to learn the basic controls. then go shoot. then go chance go shoot w ppl who are better than you( no need to be pro, but at least shoot longer than you. then when they tell you about exposure, lighting angle etc you have an idea what it is and can pick up new ideas

2) Shoot a lot, with the understanding in mind that you must try new things from your own viewpoint and not just follow others' ideas blindly

yeah, i second that. with digital photography these days, wastage of 'films' is a thing of the past. read up online guides, lots of practise, and review your shots to see if you get your desired effects. if not, rinse and repeat, or discuss with the veterans here.

Shoot a lot, but review every shot even the bad ones on your computer. Ask yourself if you can figure out what went wrong, and if so, what can be done to reduce it from happening next time. Look at your EXIF data, which contains all the shooting information (aperture, shutter, ISO and a whole lot of others). How you do this will depend on what application you have. Canon users have Zoombrowser EX supplied free with the camera.
Some of the 'purists' accuse digital shooters of shooting way too much, but I feel no shot is wasted as long as you learn something from it, even if it is to just look at it and say "No, I didn't like it, but I learned from that experiment".
