this is fisheye

I think it is interesting lens to use when used wisely.
Otherwise it is not easy to pull of an entire series based solely on fisheye effects cause the *interestingness* wears off ( at least for me i think )

Thats one of the reason why i decide not to invest in one cause i got minimal use for it.

Having said that there are some arty shots where ppl stitch several FE shots or a mixture of FE and normal shots with strong flavored themes

( but for UW photography u might wanna get one )

Is the 8mm len mainly for a general purpose? :)

what do you mean when you refer to general purpose ? if you forsee shooting plenty of FE next time then it may be your general purpose lens ?

Sorry, what I mean is whether can I use this len to shoot any subject,be it portrait or landscape...

nice pics u have there...wif the fish eye effect.

Any idea is there a general fish eye len tat a newbie can use for a start?

8mm is circular fisheye lens on 35mm camera body, and no longer a circular fisheye lens on most DSLR bodies.

anyway, too much fisheye shots make people sick, use sparingly.

Fisheye can't really be used for general purpose. The fisheye I have, the Peleng 8mm fisheye is a manual focus lens and it can't zoom, so I can't say it's a general purpose lens, unless you refer to general purpose meaning at can capture everything in one picture... :bsmilie:

A more flexible fisheye would be the Tokina 10-17. You can look up on that one.

For general purpose, i.e. a walkaround lens, it varies for individuals. But people generally prefer ranges from 24mm to 100+mm.
I use a 24-70 lens on my 10D most of the time.

I enjoy street photography with FE ( without tripod) more than landscape..just a preference and I am a FE newbie. Would try it for my next travel.
I find it especially useful for night street photography too... without any need for tripod.
Will post some Night FE pix when free.

Take a look.. some might not like it..;)
