Hi Guys,

A few questions I will like to seek your advice.

1. How do I protect my lens and camera from the water vapor that condenses in either parts when i move from air-conditioned placed to warm place?

Is it by zip lock Bag?

2. How do i protect my lens from getting dust INTO the lens when I am outdoor?

Thanks a lot.

1) if u are in singapore, and not elsewhere overseas. after using ur camera, just keep it in ur camera bag will do... no need to put inside plastic bag etc.. the camera bag will be sufficient to prevent condensation... but spore aircon places are not that cold so no big issue...

2) if u are outdoor, and if u are using lens that extend when u zoom in and zoom out, u simply cant prevent dust from getting into the lens... even the lens that doesnt extend when zoom in or out will also have dust entering thru minute slits in the lens.. example: the slit between the zoom/focus ring and the metal lens body. the only way to prevent dust from entering lens is to stop shooting...

Yes, use those airtight bags.

As for dusts, there's absolutely no way to prevent any dusts from entering lenses no matter how weatherproof your lenses are. The only way is to reduce them.

Do I need to blow some air in to make it bloated so that the cold air from my office at 19 degree will not cool down my camera at a faster rate?

Yes, but of cos not until it becomes a vacuum inside. Just put it in the bag (u may want to put in a silica gel pack) and just seal it.

Thanks Snoweagle. You are a great help. ;)

AS stated u said it is in an office y not head down to carrefour to buy a drybox with selica gel i think muz safer than zip locks

Hi spazzer, I am moving around from air conditioned area to non very often.

Another questions.

How do I detect dust on my photograph? Any accurate ways?

From my own experience, take a nice bright blue sky and put it in your computer. View for any grey or black spots that may appear. Take several shots to confirm the same dusts location.

Coincidence coz that's what I did for checking also:bsmilie:

my suggestion is setting MF to infinity and then set to F 22. take a few good pix of a white wall. Then u review in ur comp and blow the pic up...should be no huge chunks of dust...

Thanks Snoweagle, blueskye168 and polantics with your advices.

i dont think you can detect lens dust by shooting. the spots that you see when you stop down to f/22 are SENSOR dust, not lens dust.

if you're pointing to the skies, your lens probably goes into infinity focus, hence any spots on the lens (trust me. you can even have a pea size dust spot) and you wont be able to see any spots on your picture. this is because the dust on the lens will probably bokeh out already. the only way to photograph dust on lens is to focus on the front element of the lens itself (assusming the dust is on the front element). that's not possible as far as i know.

Dont worry about dust in lens. it will NEVER affect quality, unless you have fungus or dust spots that is as big as coins.

No need to worry, just go out and start shooting. There is Nikon service centre afterall.
