Have been thinking of getting a Mac? Any strong reasons to move to Mac? Mac users out there, any opinions other than form factor?

Should ask yourself this question : why Macintosh?
From there, we can see if you need one.

Mac user here... :)

Mac user here..

I choose mac because I suck at computers... I don't know how to make them work, so it's better for me if they just do by themselves.

the mac looks after itself, so I don't have to worry about registry conflicts or all the other technical stuff I don't know about, and I can focus on whatever I really want to use the computer for, studies, photo editing etc... If I want to use some new device or camera with it, I just plug it in and it works. No installing stuff and changing settings blah blah...

It's been at least a year since I had anything close to resembling a crash, and it sure hasn't slowed down like my PC would after some time...

My bro on the other hand, prefers PCs. They do have their benefits, like cheaper software (generalising here..), but he's good at the computer stuff so he doesn't mind maintaining his PC to keep it going smoothly.

Just my computer illiterate opinion... take with generous servings of salt.

Hmm...the best person to convince you is yourself. Borrow one to try if you can. Or simply dive in like I did, and see if you like it.

One thing to consider is this: I don't think I ever heard anyone going back to Windows after they owned a Mac.

* Proud owner of the big 24" iMac and the tiny 12" iBook.

Agreed that rarely Mac users will go back to PC once they switched. Otherwise, due to work related issue, only then will Mac users go back to PC.

I work on dual platform. Mac at home/work while PC at minimum.
To me, less hassle though i know how to maintain a PC but simply wasting too much time on getting things work the way it should work while Mac work out of the box. At least for me. Just concentrate on what you want to do and get it done.

One advice to make your switching more painless unless you are adventurous like kniveswood and me - dive right in, do a little checklist of the applications that you are currently using and cannot do without on your PC and find applications on Mac that give you the similar functions. Cover all your tasks that you need to do and you are more than ready to switch.

One thing: tons of lovely shareware at low cost works wonderfully are available for Mac. Do a search and check them out on sites like : macupdate.com and versiontracker.com.

Happy shopping...

u should....coz iphone is coming....haha...

mac user here!

well, mac is easier to use. no virus (for now).

you can always get a intel mac that run windows. so you can switch between both system. i got to agree to what to others said. once you use mac, you wont want to go back to pc.

once you've gone mac you'll never go back.;) okay thats lame.

SEriously speaking, i'm not sure about intel-macs i'm still stuck in the IBM PowerPC Era with my G4, (maybe soon looking to a new-old quad G5. :p )

I use it for work, design, vid pro audio pro etc... i find it still meets my needs untill i go HD that is.

For work? great, no hickups, no hassle

For games? :thumbsd: Can try not thinking about it so much...

Point to note:
I'm not a Intel Mac users and the new developments may have very well left my comments in the dust.

Also here to learn, would people please give some insight on the new intels, i'm eager to see how they work out for u guys.

hmm.. mac are better in terms of multimedia capabilities as they hav all the necessarily built in like monitor calibration for doing video/photo editing which pc hav to spend money to get it. And you will need not spend too much money to get those multimedia softwares as they hav one that can do all in just one application which pc is short off. they also had lesser technical problems because mac control how things should go or not not like pc which you can totally change whole things without urself knowing why...

mac user here. i was one of those who dived right in.. and i haven't looked back.

i've had my ibook for 2 years now .. i don't remember it having anything similar to the 'blue screen of death'. it hasn't crashed or anything. no virus or spyware. it's still 'almost' as fast as it was when brand new.

and it's darn convenient and easy to use.

my next laptop will be a macbook. and my next desktop will be an imac. no doubts about that.:)

Had similar question few years ago ... go to any Apple shop and have a try/hands on or get any of your mac frens to give u a demo, you will find the answer.
Not regret making the switch ... for many years.

A iMac G4 + iMac G5 + MacBook 2.0Ghz user.

Get a Mac! I switched over recently, and dun regret a bit. However, I do miss the ability to game, u still can game on a Mac but it might be lacking in some aspects.

Mac user here too. Jus switched a few months back to a C2D MBP and enjoying every moment i'm using it. Sometimes forced to use windows due to work but i will always use mac when i dun need windows. Its such a breeze to use.

a strong reason to move to Mac?

the power and beauty of OS X =)

the all-in-one experience (dono how to describe, u have to be a Mac user yourself)

The simplicity and elegant design... and ease of use.
If that's not enough reason, the Mac OS X Leopard is on the way.
