yea, i posted this on another forums, but want to gather more views and advices!

Ok, cut long story short, my dad had accidentally knocked onto someone's Honda Civic (not new one, but the EK9 that generation...) and today he was told that the other guy asked for a $2000++ claim from my dad's insurance!

btw, i'm not some expert in this field, but common sense would know that it's too much to claim 2000 bucks for this damage.

anyway, here's the only scar the car sustained:

and just incase you want to know, my dad got this damage, and he paid less then $500 (cash) and got it fixed the same day:

thank you in advance!

it's how garages earn their living~

Ask him to claim from your dad's insurance lor, he won't get far.

looks like a $800 dollar job...

if the other party claim from your dad insurance than bo pian already, otherwise with such light damage your dad should have offered to have it fixed at his workshop, so that it would not affect the NCB in the insurance.

I dont know what happen but from what i see,ur dad's car got hit at the rear..the other party damaged the front, usually its the guy hitting the rear in the wrong but then again,i dont know what happen coz u didnt really tell the whole story:think:

Your insurance company will negotiate and fight for a reasonable claim amount. Just provide the relevant information to your insurance company. There is nothing much else you can do, unless you want to settle it privately.

Usually, the person who suffer damage in front vs damage on the rear of the other party is on the losing side...

So even the car in front reverse and hit my car, i am in the wrong because my car is hitting the others car rear.?

my dad was reversing the car, while the honda guy came in from the back. my dad reversed and knocked into him (why dont people horn when they see cars going in their direction?)

then my dad's car kissed his front.

then this young punk came out and kbkp swear and scold at my dad + all my ancestors etc. my dad is that type that let him scold lor.

then this young punk asked his friend to come, whom also drive an identical Civic, save for the wheels, everything is the SAME. his friend asked my dad if he were to pay up now and settle privately. my dad said better to send for a quote and go the IDAC way. that guy today went for a quote and told my dad it's 2000++ for the damage.

then he come ask my dad if he wants to pay up and settle. my dad say go claim lor.

So what's your question?

The way car insurance works is this: the other guy makes a claim against your insurer, your insurer will then ask if you want to settle the claim privately, or let them settle it. The former won't affect your NCD. The latter will. You have a choice.

Typically people will settle privately if the amount is small (say < $500). For large sums, people always let the insurer settle-- that's why we buy insurance, right?

If you decide to let the insurers settle it themselves, and if neither party has admitted liability, the two insurance companies will argue to see who should pay whom. They will call their lawyers and their independent assessors, and rely on your reports and photos if needed.

Whatever the case, you will not pay anything more than your excess. However, you can expect to lose your NCD next year. That's about it.

I think in this case ur dad is in the wrong but he made the right decision to let the guy claim as i dont think the damage cost $2000..

i was wondering, if that guy come and claim against my dad's insurance for the 2000 bucks he quoted, what will happen to my dad's insurance fee next year?

now that i've gathered that:

Our policyholder's 'No Claim Discount" will not be reduced if the policyholder's liability is 20% or less; when involved in a collision with a traceable vehicle or person.

so that means to say, my dad's insurance fee is going to skyrocket next year, since he's getting the full 50% NCD?

A new bumper job cost $1000, not $2000. Your dad fix his for $500 using back the existing bumper; this is about right.

The civic bumper has cracked, and has to be replaced. Putty and respray, and it'll crack very easily. However, looks like the owner added a bumper strip? Play scare with him, tell him that because he installed the bumper strip, he'll have to pay for the bumper replacement should he make a claim, as the strip caused more impact, and caused the bumper to crack. Offer a S$500 for private settlement, take it or leave it.

Alternatively, tell him your dad is going to claim his insurance, as he kissed your dad's car's backside.

GET A LAWYER.... that young punk needs some "education". Your dad may even earn money at the end of the case.

I think it is up to your Dad's insurance company as to what the outcome is.

I would not loose sleep over it no matter what the other person says.

Don't worry about it. It is not as bad as you think.

If your Dad is not insured, I would guess that he will have an option to get it fixed himself.

If so, he (your Dad) can shop around for the best price.

If it were me, as the guy hit from behind, I would claim damages to my neck ....hahaha

whiplash !

Settle out of court.... the guy gets his car fixed himself and I won't sue for my neck hahaha

Just my view hehehehe :)

I just feel that you dad was framed...prob that burger intent to change new bodykit and purpose ram into your dad when he is reversing.....just my speculation hor :)

OK, why not consult some repair specialist, set a sum and ask him take it or leave it.....if not...take a look what can be happened

please update us on the insurer settlement, though it may take years... dun worry, minor claim, dun lose sleep over it.

Don't worry lah... let the insurance company handle. They are the experts... they won't pay out that easily. The other guy might even failed to claim anything.
