I plan to buy K10D this weekend, yesterday read one news from other pentax forum.
Right now I hold back my purchasing plan. What should I do?
The original news from japanese website:
http://www.business-i.jp/news/sou-page/news/200706010013a.nwc

I briefly know what is this news talking about?
It is the interview of Hoya CEO in 31May07.
The reporter Ask: will hoya sell pentax camera business?
The Hoya CEO answer: Camera business continues. Simply, chasing the quantity, there is no promising future. You do not expect that we will chase Nikon and CANON. We are small, but it is necessary to become the camera manufacturer which shines.

I like the color of pentax camera, but I am worry about whether there will be some new lens coming out or not.
Although I can not afford all those very expensive lens, I still concern about the quality and availability of the lens.
Somebody told me "Don't choose the system, because one camera"
But I properly only buy one DSLR and a few not expensive lens (16-45mm,50-200mm,100Macro and maybe sigma 175-500mm).
What should I do? I am very doubt about Pentax's future, properly can see clearly in a few months. Should I wait or change?

Are the lenses currently available not enough or not good enough for you to use? :embrass:

Personally I think you should no be put off from buying the K10D on the basis of a news report or whatever the somebody may have said. So many happy K10D & K100D owners already, you can be one too...

The bottom line is Hoya has made a commitment to continue the Pentax brand and range of products. The Hoya CEO is realistic in saying that Pentax won't match C & N's strategy to be market leader. Not yet anyway.

There are enough lenses available from Pentax and 3rd party makers to fill the majority of subjects. Obviously the new lenses rollout is a little slow, but being a Pentax owner helps one develop the zen art of patience. :bsmilie:

Pentax's future is a little hard to say at the moment because of Hoya. But there is no reason why we shouldn't be buying it to use.

When you look at Pentax system, it is K-mount. K-mount has been in the market for near to 40odd years? In term of cross-compatiblity in manual, AF, digital SLR bodies. Only Pentax give you the kind of compatibilty to step forward and back. It is not Canon(look at how Canon dumped all the manual focus lenses users when they go AF), and these days not Nikon as well.

K-mount does have a very bright future! If Pentax don't make it because of Hoya... then I believe someone else like samsung will be more than happy to do it... inherit the whole 'wealth' of K-mount users out there. Look at Sony, they don't have a SLR mount system design and user base out there, so they have to buy over KM to inherit the their users.

If I were you, I will put my faith in K-mount... and there are more than enough K-mount lenses out there to be use with Pentax.

cheerss...

Ya, why chase C & N when you are better off chasing Leica standard:bsmilie: Imagine Leica quality on K-mount at current Pentax prices. Confirm out-shine all competition. Must dream big:bsmilie:

Pentax LE lenses are well known to be optically and mechanically as good as some Leica lenses :D Not to say those old S-M-C Takumars

Big dream properly hurts you most!
How is the possiblity of surviving of pentax camera business in this profit driven enviroment?;( ;(
Frankly I don't believe what most of CEO's promise. (CEO of my company is like a salesman, he can tell you very beautiful, but never come true)

But I still like Pentax very much, although I know maybe it will hurt me a lot in terms of mentally and cashly. Am I emotional?

If I will go to HongKong, I properly will buy all the stuffs I want, no need to bargain with the salesman and still get at least S$500 cheaper than in singapore. (What happened to those pentax dealer in Singapore? Crazy!)

One more thing is if, I said if Pentax camera business closed down. Will Shrior still do the service for pentax equipements?

Another one more thing is USM lens, seems like USM lens project is abortion.

I think I will wait untill the situation is a bit clearer or when the price is smashed or I go to Hongkong or price of D200 drop:cry:

Dear Bigworld... is availability or money issue bites u??? what is bugging u? If u r confident about the technical aspect of Pentax, then u should look " no wild flower" ! There are still many good 3rd party lens around.... even if pentax is sold.... the acquirer will still take up the servicing!! They buying the business unit.. not the hardware alone!

Just look at the current prices of some high quality KM lenses, they are like rocket high :D You might need to pay more for some high quality Pentax made lenses, if, I say if, Pentax is sold (which isn't likely in the near future anyway).

For your case, better just get a Nikon D200. Don't make things to hard for yourself. It's just a camera, why buying something that might make you unhappy :)

D200, D80, 30D, 5D, 1DMarkIII, S5Pro, K10D ... whatever dSLR camera you buy in the market should be sufficient for most ametures. Just get something you can afford and really like, and something might make you happier :bsmilie:

Get 400D... most value for money & feature! :bsmilie:

Yeah... Get the 1D Mk3... ;p
For that kind of price, I think you should be entitled to complain to the service center if it doesn't make you happier... :D :bsmilie:

Be careful of Canon,
It is not Canon(look at how Canon dumped all the manual focus lenses users when they go AF)

Maybe right now you are happy with the AF, if they invent NF(No need Forcus:D :D ), you will regret why never buy nikon or pentax.:cool

Now you're talking rubbish!!! K100D is the winner for value for money. K10D is the winner in best features for the money...

FYI goods at HK are duty free.

K100D is value for money only if you are talking abt the body with non supersonic motor lenses. Thinking of the problem with supersonic lenses, that's a pain...

wanna jump ship again? you jump, i jump? lol. dun treat my words serious.

Bro BigWorld,

Just wondering. Are you going for the system just becos of USM? In your thread you mentioned a list of lenses you might be getting, so are these lenses available? Users are upgrading their camera bodies so frequently nowadays, how long do you want/intend to use your camera? What are you looking for in the first place? Value for money? Quality? Look at the price of the lens of other brands. Do you mean that lenses w/o USM cannot produce good pictures. If the pictures I take are lousy, it's not becos the system, the lens or the camera bodies fault, it's becos I'm not a well polished photographer.

You have the answer to all the questions above, so you are the best person to decide. No point asking a question and rebutting all the opinions given.

Just my 2 cents worth, hope I have not offended you or anyone in any manner. :)

You are everywhere. I don't jump, you go ahead. :bsmilie:

i am just chasing your footsteps
i should admit that I am little bit worried about Pentax's future after the TOB with HOYA. I fear that the customer service may be affected thus when the camera or lens got problem there is very limited recovery sources, others no issue. I am fine with the lenses without USM/HSM/or whatever (not the canned drink :bsmilie: ), althoud I do envy those USM/HSM equipped ones...Still no body is sure what will happen in the future, so better just enjoy lor.

Comparable but still not Leica;) What they should do is make a range of limited pieces lenses with individual platinium/gold plated serial numbers on them. Name them platinium series or something expensive. Rich people are suckers for stuff like these.:bsmilie:
