here's my try at portaiture..
her bf gave her the flowers so i thought it would be nice to take a picture of her with it. just hoping i did some justice to the love they share.

wld very much like to hear from you guys.. especially on how to improve. =)

Bro! It's been a long time since we met.. Anyway c&c for your pics,

Might want to include the whole right ear, would like to see more of the left hand, clone away the flower at the bottom right corner. Might want to include the guy in the photo, it'll be nice to see their eyes meet.

Slight underexpose, maybe it's my screen. :embrass:

From a photojournalistic point of view... I think you nailed the shot. I believe Linda and her bf will appreciate this shot (have you showed them?)

You captured the moment. Look at that smile... it was just a girl tickled pink. That is the soul of the picture. You framed very aggressively and tightly, and yet we can associate the flowers (in rich colours) and that smile... the connection is made. This is not portraiture material of course, but this shot had what it needs from a photojournalistic point of view. So I do give you that

Lovely image. So sweet.

Mmm, I really like the moment, but I think you can push the exposure a bit more.

whooo! hahaha. really glad u guys liked it. =) thanks all.
*deep bow*

about the underexposed thing, i kinda sorta get what u guys mean.. i did try to up the exposure on PS but then it would've caused the right side of her face to get a lil blown out. thx for mentioning though. =) now that you've mentioned it, i do regret cutting off her ear too.

to androo: yeah mann. its been a long while.. need to catch up! i like your avatar. nice colours though kinda small. haha

without looking at ur desc...

well she looks happy, but in a childish kinda way.
dun feel any love. the flowers well, if give roses then the hint of love is stronger.
composition is good. dun worry abt the year, u just want her smile and eyes.

use gradient tool or soft brush on layer mask plus adjustment curve can fix it.

Interesting that you mentioned that. *(just for open discussion and conceptualisation in photography)

Roses would not have had the same effect because the subject is wearing school uniform (hence telling of her age) and the "sweet" flowers really go very well with her age. Would not have worked for her to have roses. For a more matured subject and maybe a classier lady in a gown (or any "grown up" outfit) and more posed, roses would have been spot on.

And again, I see this shot as perfect in a photojournalistic way, there is simply no better way to shoot this as shot by the photog. Emotion and the moment was very well captured. She was grinning ear to ear because of what was given to her at that moment. That is a good capture of a moment of youth and innocence. Puppy love it may be, but that emotion is well captured by the photographer. And from some comments on her ear, I say leave it... bringing in her ear would have moved the face too much centre into the image and that would have spoilt the composition. The face on the left upper corner and the flowers in hand on the bottom right corner, that was what that made this shot worked in the first place. So shooter, really, you have composed well. And fast.

nice. prefer it brighter though.

i was thinking of the same thing too.. but like i did say earlier, was afraid that her left side wld've gotten blown out.. have yet to try the gradient tool thingy catchlights mentioned. been bogged down with work and exams.. :( thx for the comments thou! appreciate it.

microcosm:
you are wayy too kind, really.. it was a at a right place at the right time kinda thing la.. but anyhows, thx for those really encouraging words!

I took the liberty to help you in this. If you don't like it, let me know, I'll remove it. :)

This does not work.
This is a case of "perfection within imperfection", like many great works out there.

Personally, I'd like it with the exposure of your editing but without the extra bright white teeth. ;)

eyes:
thanks for helping me out.. i agree with zac08. really like what you did with the exposure.. but her teeth too white. hahahah. maybe its just me but i've known her for quite a while so seeing her so 'perfect' just seems weird la..
but please, don't take the picture down. its a good alternative to the original.

btw, lets not let things escalate yea? everyone's entitled to his or her own point of view..

cheers people!

Dude, chill. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally, I'd like it with the exposure of your editing but without the extra bright white teeth. ;)

Yes. My monitor is off- I can't see some shades. Will fix it when I go home to SG with SpyderP.

from a newbie pov, the original brought out the emotions clean and neat nuff. it even made ne recap my younger days. issn't that essential of a good photo?
