Race is on to get strategic spots to catch F1 GP

SINGAPORE: As hotel rates are likely to skyrocket and premium tickets out-of-reach for the average F1 fan, people are starting to scout for alternative locations in Singapore to view the race.
Marina Square Shopping Centre's second level is a great spot to see the cars hurtling on one of the longer stretches, Raffles Boulevard.

Millenia Walk also provides grandstand seating at no cost.

The Food Court at Marina Square offers a spectacular view of the cars coming out of the floating platform area next to the Esplanade.

Those working around the Suntec area will also have a chance to catch the cars, without leaving their offices.

One company on the 29th floor of Centennial Tower has a bird's eye view of some parts of the race, including the new section at Marina Promenade and the Singapore Flyer.

Gilbert Kwek, GM, Sales and Marketing, DaimlerChrysler, Southeast Asia, said: "Our staff and the sales people will have a party in the office. All round our offices, you can probably see certain parts of the track, so most of the staff are actually quite excited about it and they intend to have a party in the office during the race season."

More private parties can also be expected at The Fullerton Waterboat House where fans can catch the action against a scenic backdrop like Esplanade Drive and the Anderson Bridge.

It is also understood that some corporations are willing to spend S$400 per person to book the restaurant for their guests.

but those facing the road ones will be the suites.
and judging from the way the prices will be pumped for the event, i reckon a night easily will be 1k+ to 2k?:dunno:

Hotel prices are always 100 - 200% above their normal prices during F1 week-end. In Melbourne where I go to see F1, I have to pay extraordingary high prices for a room - sometimes as high as A$200 in a 3 star hotel from Thurs. - Sat. nites and on Sun. onwards, the price will fall to about $120. The hotels all tell me that they have to follow the guidelines set by the Victorian Tourism Board.

For a grandstand ticket at a GP, the prices are also high - last year I had to pay RM 1,000 for each ticket for a seat at a grandstand off the main straight. In Melbourne the prices start at about A$600. These tickets are for the 3 - 4 days of the racing week-end.

At Paddock Club, I reckon you need to pay about S$7 - 8,000, from the feedback I get, but you get free 5 star food and drinks such as champagne, smoked salmon, etc. I Think, because I've never been there - too ex for me.

An entrance ticket (no seat) will cost about A$170 for the 4 days.

In Sepang you are not allowed to bring in drinks, not even water. You got to buy from the race organisers at RM$20 for a bottle of water/beer/softdrinks.

actually, the view from side is not that bad.
at sepang where cars floor past you at 200+km/h, sometimes it look like they are going at 100+ only.

Did it go thru the fence? I thought the tyre flew in thru the opening meant for safety cars to drive in... :dunno: anyways, it was really unfortunate. I think he was a volunteer at the F1.

People with access to One Fullerton (nearer to Merlion) and Maybank tower will have an awesome view - for free...
