Any special place in Tokyo i must go?

Hakone or Fuji-Fives Lakes (You don't have enough time to do both).

All Info available here: http://www.japan-guide.com/

OK, you already got pretty useful info.

This is what I can remember from my maiden trip to Tokyo.

Hotel
Shinagawa Prince Hotel
http://www.princehotelsjapan.com/shinagawaprincehotel/

Its bang opposite Shinagawa train station. I can't remember how much I paid lah (was a business trip), very convenient if you want to travel around.

Airport to hotel
Limousine Bus. Can't remember the bus number, but the counter at the airport will tell you which bus to take. This bus goes directly to the Shinagawa Prince hotel. Costs 3000 Yen (as of June 2005)

Things to do
I just had one weekend after work, and I used that to climb Mt. Fuji. I was so fortunate that the official climbing season started just the week when I was there :bsmilie:
I was probably fated to climb Mt. Fuji, so the business trip materialized out of nowhere :bsmilie:
Other than that, nothing fantastic.

If you are petrified of travelling alone, do the half day/full day tours - you will find plenty of information at your hotels. The bus will come, pick you up and drop you back at your hotel.

Plenty of restaurants and fast food joints there - in the Shinagawa area. You will get along fine. Just point and click at the menu :bsmilie:

Enjoy.

And yeah, don't forget to take a photo of the gadget in the loo. ;)

Hi all,

I will be leaving for US tomorrow night and, afterwards transit at Japan for sightseeing on 20 May 2007 Sunday evening. So happy, though I'm going there alone only for a 3 nights.

I will go Akihabara!!! Electricity City:devil:

Can someone tell me which shop ?? recommended?... Coz I"m sure i will blur and lost in this area. Too many shops dunno which shop offer good price and reliable goods.

what's in my mind?
85mm F1.8 Canon
12-24 F4 Tokina

My 10D + 17-40L will be accompanied me during the trip...
My first virgin trip to Japan

Hi Mr. Sunfish!

Thanks, found that the Tokina 12-24mm selling only SGD$600 nia so cheap.
Anyone here tried tax rebate @ Airport for lens purchasing? Can guide me? Form to fill? And etc???

If got 5% rebate then the brand new lens cost only S$570.

Is there any recommended shop @ Akihabara?
Detail info like shop name?? And location of which level this shop is....

Akihabara is the wrong place for camera gear. You should head to Shinjuku - that is where the majority of the camera stores are located.

MAP camera is the cheapest place to get camera gear in Tokyo - tell them to quote you their tax free price. MAP sells both used and new camera gear.

MAP CAMERA?
Mind tell me the location?
Shinjuku which building?
within Shinjuku JR station?

Really thanks for the info.

It is directly behind the main Yodobashi Main Store in Shinjuku.

My advice is to bring cash as their NETs machines may not read your CC. Their CC mag stripes are thinner than the Sg CCs. Sometimes it works, some times it doesn't.

And since you are there, you shouldn't waste yr money on a Tokina lens (not to say that Tokina lenses are bad). But you might find that the Canon eqivalent is about the same price.

I'm using EF mount 10D, so i cannot use Canon EFS 10-22mm :mad2:

One last question, i found my 10D batt Charger only takes in 250V~, and how am i going to charge my batteries? Oh No! Btw, I'm now in Minneapolis, US. So, LL i have to get a 110V~ charger for my 10D in Japan. Should have check out my charger rating before i left Singapore! Regret now..............

I left with another two half-used batteries with me... Not sure they can last how long...:mad2:

Hmmm - Use Nikon then. I didn't have a problem with my D70s charger when I still owned it.

I find it unusual that Canon would cripple their chargers so, there isn't a switch to change it to 100/110V?

Depending on how many pics you can shoot on each battery, I should think you would be fine for 3 days.

I managed two weeks in Japan on just 1 battery with my D70s. But I shot with it like a film camera and not like a GPMG.

Three days is too short to venture out of Tokyo to places like Nikko or Hakone. I'd concentrate my visit to Tokyo city itself. If you are arriving early in the morning, I'd head straight to Tjujiki Fish Market at 5am. You have to be there by 6am to catch the Tuna auctions - lots to see and shoot and eat. The sushi stores outside the market are very good - the sushi and sashimi literally melts into your mouth (turns into sea water).
