Anybody out there familiar with PDF files?

I've got a problem. I've got a manual in CD form and its all in PDF format. When I want to search for a particular word or phrase using the 'FIND' button, it'll search and tell me there are no matches for the word even though the word is right there on the 1st page!

Am I doing something wrong? I'm using Acrobat Reader 7. Or is it the 'FIND' function can only search for words if the PDF was 'typed' and not 'scanned'??

Thanks for your help.

Yes you are right. Scanned words is the same as image and cannot be search.

But yours is a manual in CD form and its all in PDF format, i think it should be in text form.

have you tried on other machines?

How can I tell if the PDF was 'scanned' or 'typed'?

I was actually given a paper manual as well as the CD with manual in PDF.

Go properties and check with what it was created.... if its scanned then the scanner name will be mentioned.
Otherwise try save it as text and see what you get.... if its image you get nothing.

You can use the text select tool and see if you can selext the text portions to copy and paste. if youcan't, then high chance that it is an image scanned PDF.
