Hi Guys,
What's a good compact out there? My GF is jealous of me buying a DSLR so she wants a slim compact for herself... :embrass:

thinking of the nikon P5000 since it can hotshoe for a SB800 if i get one for myself... hahaha..
but that aside, what are the brands to consider. Budget-wise, i should be fine for any recommendations below $800

Looking for low-light, with decent customizable functions (in case i bring it around instead)

That's quite a common question in the forum nowadays. If you had done a search, you would have noticed that ladies tend to go for design & sleekness as compared to men who would go for the functionalities. So for women, most likely they will like a Sony/Casio. With that budget, it should not be a problem. Why not bring your GF to pick the one she likes most, afterall she's the one using it.

yup, you're right. she pointed out the sony for its sleekness, but i'm still lost for which model since i have alot of reading to catch up on regarding PnS...

Sony T series. Easy to use, Image Stabiliser, chio!

Casio Exilim, anything goes lor, I mean.. They all look the same anyways! =D

There are a few models which are very nice. My friend has a T10 and it has served her well. She brings it to the office almost every day.

i guess the Sony T series would be the one.. maybe the T100... but i was just worried about Sony (i somehow have this perception that when you buy Sony, you're just buying the design) hmmm

Just try it out, I have seen excellent photos from Sony as well.

Should give the brand a chance because otherwise you'd never know. Besides, from personal experience I've used H2 and I can tell you that it is quite decent.

Damselfly on Flickr takes marvellous macros with her T10, sometimes better than what I've seen here with DSLR and all that.. Just the design? I think not.

Sony is not a bad choice as compared to Casio. Personally, I find Casio picture qualities are q bad. Eg. V noisy at high ISO n colours not as vibrant. Prob u would like to consider or check out Fuji Z5. The outlook is nice n slim. I'm currently using Z2, night shots are q ok. So far so gd for a 1 yr old, slim cam. :)

In fact most cameras look about the same for day shots, what differentiates them is the night shots. So far, fuji is q good for night shots. Lower noise at high ISO. MS colour has fuji promo, q attractive. U can check it out.
