hi all

what does it take to be a studiio apprentice? Is this position about helping out with photography / make up?

EVerything goes....maybe even more mundane tasks like cleaning the floor and equipment.

so how would you define a newbie for apprentice, ie those without relevant experience, or those who just graduated from school?

this suddenly reminds me of bob's threads... :bsmilie:

relevant experience... unless the studies just graduated from is a re: photography

haha yea but the starting pay for apprentice sure sounds pathetic...

i was paid $30 for half a day's job....that was 10 years ago.

but it was tough...had many hard cases to carry, it was for commercial location shoots..for newspaper ads.

but no lobangs for u now..

so a studio apprentice's job is like the runner for the photographer?

Worse.... Besides handling photographic equipment, my studio apprentice is also my coffee and meal boy, postman, sweeper, window and glass cleaner, phone operator, secretary, web designer, porter, driver, computer serviceman, plumber, carpenter, 4D/TOTO runner, shoe-shiner, client entertainer and McDonald's/Pizza Hut/KFC/Burger King/DeliFrance/MOS Burger delivery boy, etc.

The possibilities are endless. I just make him happy by giving him extra $5 to buyer himself a meal. I never let my apprentice handle my camera or teach him how to light a subject, simply because I pay him enough to buy himself photography books to read. If not, there is always a Regional Library nearby.

BTW, I don't own the studio..... I have a boss above me and he wants me to fully-utilize our apprentices. ;)

Basically you are the photographer's "biatch", anything and everything that needs to get done, has to get done and whatever you're told to do you do, no questions asked.

Just thought about it, kinda sounds like the army.:bsmilie:

If you have a chip on your shoulder, you had better not apply.

Just like in those shaolin movies; for one to learn martial arts, the new monk will first need to carry water, sweep floor and do all sorts of manual labour for a couple of years before even getting the chance to learn the basics of the martial art. But think about it, all the physical work done initially train the person's mind and body to withstand even more stress and hardships down the road.

so the apprentice must kneel down and serve chinese tea to sifu. :bsmilie:

he has to carry the DSLR up and down the mountain every morning to train. :bsmilie:
