Is there anyone still taking wedding photography using film? Is there still a market for it?

I'm wondering, because I've been asked by one of my friend to take photos for their wedding, and if all goes well, he MIGHT recommend me to his friends.

The problem is, I can't figure whether I should shoot in film or digital. So far, my speedlite and most lenses are more suitable for SLR due to the full-frame factor and incompatability with the DSLR. :bsmilie: (SLR investments are so much cheaper! Be it for flashes or lenses) My DSLR is just a 300D, which I've shot a wedding once with it before, and I felt was too slow, too little buffer, and future investments for the flashes and lenses are too big. Photography isn't my ricebowl anyway.

I was thinking whether it's actually ok to shoot with film, scan them in and probably process them (if the couples want it in digital format). Would couples actually mind this workflow? :dunno:

Btw, I don't have a film scanner yet :bsmilie: So I'm not exactly sure about the quality of scans and whatnot. Thinking of getting the 4490 though.

Comments? :)

from a noob point of view, i think film is a much safer bet for weddings. use films like Fuji NPH 160 or NPH 400. wider exposure latitude, wider dynamic range, finer grain.

of course, getting a decent body is important too, esp a good AF system. for canon, i'd think that the EOS30/33 or EOS3 would be good film cams.

but then again, im a noob. just my opinions :)

Yup, already got myself a good body + lenses. Thanks for the heads up :)

if your clients don't mind I don't see the problem.

although some couples do request for minimum megapixels and to shoot with certain equipment.
Just be honest about your equipment. I feel there's totally nothing wrong with shooting film.

since u were asked by a frd den noworries even if got no market for it. i shoot film for a frd don her wedding oso. if ur skills, lense, cam & flash is adequate den go ahead. shoot w/ confidence.

i dun mind getting paid a token sum if i go along... :sweatsm:

Haha. He actually told me that I'll be paid a proper amount, not token sum. :bsmilie:
I'm confident of getting some good shots, but not all the must-have shots

I think my main concern is getting the correct shots. And the other concern is whether there are any wedding film shooters around who practices the process-and-scan workflow.. just so I can understand the workflow better..

Oh, not to mention, if he wants photos to be displayed on screen during the reception, I'm a dead guy. :sweatsm: Will have to confirm with him again on what he wants..

if you konw what you're doing it's fine. Don't use your friend as a learning experience. Marriage is a once-in-a-life big event. Don't ruin it for the free service or token sum.

do you know after the shoot, go to the lab and get the film processing and scan, burn the CD, dump all inside the computer, select and do rotation, get it run on XP slideshow. how much time you need?

if you don't know and he also don't know.

than good luck to you.

I do roughly know, which was why I need to confirm with him on what he wants. If he wants a slideshow, then I'll go digital.

I did tell him that. But he insist that my pics are ok and that it's better to find someone he knows. He even said that he won't blame me if anything isn't taken well (which I'm sure he means what he said)
