i had read a lot of article about this raw format. But no idea how to set the photo i took become raw format.
Everytime when i transfer the photo from my Canon A540 to pc,it appeared as a JPEG file.
May i know how to shoot in raw format or is it because my A540 can't shoot in raw format?
Thanks.:)

Err, i am not familiar with Canon. Maybe take a look at your camera manual? For me, i can do the adjustment from JPEG to Raw and even Raw+JPEG in the menu of my camera itself. :)

Thanks...I think i will check the manual again..
But if i'm not wrong,i never see any raw format in it...
Thanks anyway.

Sure, you are welcome. Anyway, the RAW format need some special software to convert if i am not wrong. Still Learning also. Work hard together man~:)

Canon A540 doesn't support RAW so you can only shoot in JPEG.
RAWs are usually available in prosumers & DSLRs.

RAW processing requires Adobe Camera RAW plugin for Photoshop, Lightroom, CaptureNX, CaptureOne, Bibble, RAWshooter etc. There are many available.

RAW are normally available on prosumers and DSLR's only and in addition RAW takes up a lot of memory, easily 5 times your jpegs.

I have an A540.

I have no idea how you got the idea that it can take RAW.. =D

Maybe he thought all cameras can shoot in RAW. Sometimes, those articles don't mention the instances which RAW is available.

That's true.

Anyways, A540 definitely cannot, but it still shoots pretty good photos for a P&S cam! =)

a540 can take raw, but the camera convert the raw to jpg for you :bsmilie:

So if you ask the camera really, really nicely - at the microphone hole, that's how you can communicate with your camera.. It will not convert and you can shoot RAW? :bsmilie:

no, talking nicely doesn't help, just kill the processing engine and you get raw bits and byte straight from the ccd/cmos. :bsmilie:
