I shot some photos and uploaded to my thumbdrive, and when I viewed it in my school computer, there was a virus alert.

Now, took another batch of photos, viewed from my home comp, and saw the same viral file, inside my XD card (rather than inside my cam's default photos folder). Then the next thing I know, comp was unable to read the card, but photos can be viewed from camera.

What happened?

some Cards have problem... the cf card i used in the d70s had some problems too. but no virus. just that the photos disappear. after some playing or refreshing it, the photos appear again.

Okay... My comp can't read the card (as in from My Computer, and the drive folder). But my camera's viewing software can.

BUT, even the software is unable to transfer the images. It'll say 'transfer failed'. I need to transfer the photos ASAP, what should I do?

I have that too. You need to right-click the drive and choose 'explore'. Sometimes, using right-click, and choosing 'open' helps too. Unfortunately, I have no way of removing the virus, just quarantine it. Go download AVG antivirus software. :)

Oh, after that, you should reformat your card. The virus only affects removable storage. Which is why I can't remove the effect of the virus from my portable HDD =.="

Okayyyyy.... now with other image viewers I managed to read my card. Lots of weird folders with random characters as names. An guess what? my 512mb card has two 38gb folders inside...

I think u better quarantine the virus asap. Cuz 2 of my thumbdrive which got infected with the virus died off after a while. I can't even format it in Windows, not detect it on any com. :nono:

if it's ravemon, this is not a bad guide
http://stylez.wordpress.com/2006/10/09/a-guide-to-removing-ravmoneexe/

technically is not possible for the pictures to be infected.
pic files cannot be infected by viruses, as they are not executed.
but cards can be infected with trojans, spread as hidden files put onto the cards.
ur pics are safe, the card is not.

I opened the card with other software, all I see are weird files with random characters as their names and file types.

switch 2 using film...

imo, the xd card's boot table is screwed, hence the 38gb folders and the werid letters.
dun think u can recover anything. sorrie.

My external HDD got the virus quite a while back, and I've used AVG to remove it already. However, I can no longer double click to open the drives; instead, I have to right-click 'open' to get in. Is there anyway to solve this problem besides doing a full reformat??

not sure if it's ravemon, but from the web description, dun think so.
might have something else inside ur comp, or possible a bad variant of ravemon which cause more damage.

to lypklypk, might have to reformat the hd only.

Hmm. I'm quite sure it was the same virus, cause when the virus struck my hdd, I couldn't double click to open the drive too. The antivirus quarantined the affected files and removed the virus, but I still can't open up the drives the normal way. I suspect it's because one of the quarantined file has something to do with this function.. AVG couldn't heal those files, so I could only quarantine it. This virus even appeared in my camp
