I'm getting a Dell 9200 series desktop to use Lightroom for my digital photos.

Do u think 2MB ram is sufficient to run Lightroom smoothly on Windows Vista?

2MB RAM ?????

izit a AT286?

OK lah... cockup in my typing... should be 2GB RAM.

So is this power enough to run LR smoothly on Window Vista?

maybe windows XP is a better choice...

still prefer XP.

vista takes up too much resources already... 2gb ram is good.

That depend on whether you using any of the resources eating programmes
such as Norton, McAfee etc including the version of Vita you are planning
to use.

A good strategy is to plan whether you can add more ram in the near
future. Suggest you start at least with 3GB and add another 1GB as
soon as you feel that you need it.

vista needs 4GB to run with LR.

My system ram usage was around 3.2GB

install XP instead and the ram usage fall to 2.1GB.

just get 4GB. peace of mind.

Are you sure 32bit PCs can address 4GB RAM? From what I know, some of the addresses need to be allocated for other system resources, so the system can only address 3.2-3.3GB. If you install 4GB of RAM, some of it will disappear.

Actually running LR with 1.5GB ram on windows vista with eye candy on is fine enough, provided that you optimise your PC.

Also make sure you run the 64bit variant of OS to fully optimize your memory

If you run the 64bit variant, you will have compatibility issues with a lot of software and devices. It's not time yet.

In the future, the Mac leopard OS will be 64bit fully to the software 64bit too. Imagine the performance.

I'm running Vista Ultimate with 2GB of RAM. No problems with LR.

However, should you open up the Task Manager and look at the free physical memory available, you may get a shock - you may have only 6 MB (or thereabouts) free.

Vista handles memory or RAM very differently from XP. Read this article for more info.
