Lomo and Holga

not sure if you're referring to Lomo LC-A, but anyway:
Lomo: Lomo is much smaller than Holga
can't use the 120mm film
it is made out of metal
Holga: has a adapter for 35mm film
bigger than Lomo
uses plastic
for the lomo lc-a the highlight is in the lenss. the pictures come out with the four corners kinda fading out. the effect is just really power as hell. it also takes 35mm film so more convenience. plus hotshoe adaptor which would allow you to put external flash such as the colour splash.
the holga is a cheaply made plastic camera which i think is the main cause for the light leaks which is also power as hell. it has the "bulb" setting as well that'd allow you to open the shutter as long as the trigger button thingy is depressed. another major thing abt it is that the film advancing and the shutter is not connected in any way so you can take as many shots you want on the same frame. and also able to create panoramic pictures. plus some models come with flash or coloured flash and it takes 120 film in 6x6format or 6x4.5 format. and the maximum no. of pictures you can take with 1 roll is 16.
if you have the money i would suggest the lc-caaa.

Both cameras are very different. One is 35mm the other is medium format. 2 different kind of fun. both are good. But one of them is very expensive.
Get LCA if you prefer 35mm, you can get it on ebay at a much better price. For holga, you can find Perly Inc on the net.
My preference is still holga because of its got more flaws and more surprises because of the way its made. No 2 holgas are the same, although the manufacturer had improved its quality alot since it started. Less light leaks now.
Another alternative is the vivitar slim & wide compact, cheap, wide, fun, good lens, no battery needed. No flash of course.

at the end of the day, it boils down to wat u want to get out of shooting, and convenience. 35mm film, after all, it's much easier to buy and process. 120 film, most likely u have to get from town and process them there too (if u want it done properly).

120 format is roughly twice the size of the 35mm negative.
there's nothing really 'special'. 120 refers to the film format, not brand. since 120 film is bigger in size than the 35mm, all things being equaled, u get more details if u managed to get it scanned in very high-res. almost equal to any of the high-end DSLRs.
hahah sorry just refering to my personal refference. i would get the lc-a instead. but i do have the holga and have used the lc-a before. both are great really..
