Hello, i'm a newbie wif not much clues on photography..esp when it comes to shutter speed...bt i'm eager to learn..are there any books for recommendation that i can borrow from the library? or any websites (besides this site)? or any basic camera courses/workshops? The ones at objektif requires the participant to have a dslr, which i am not familiar with yet. hweva,i have a canon a710is purchased last december..is there anyone else who has this camera? Pls pm me yah

how do i develop an eye for details like many other photographers? By the way, are there any photojournalism modules in any degree mass comm courses except the one at NTU?

Pls advise ya! Thanks so much

go to library look for basic photography stuffs and read them about shutter, aperture etc.
that'll be a good start for you even though you don't have a dslr.

no hard work it will not bring you anywhere.

ya,i am going to the library tomorrow. are there any particular gd books to recommend frm ur knowledgE?

look for the author Tom Ang, quite good, esp his Tao of Photography; a good read!
:) oh ya, add me on msn too, i'll pass u some links to read up on ya :)

I suggest you buy the HWM MEGAGUIDE : Digital Photography. It should cover most of the things you want to know. At $18, it is one of the cheapest photography guide books around. I bought mine at Bugis Kinokuniya.

well, wouldn't it be nice if there is a mentorshop program here?
Im sure a many will be more than willing to offer it.
start a thread with a list of volunteers, let beginners choose and e rest is negotiation btw them.
afterall this is a free forum, pple shld be more than willing to share?
& having a helping friend is certainly more helpful then having only the books.

There are such workshops already. See the "something for newbies" thread.

the 'something for newbies' is indeed a very nice thing to have.
but it's coordinated in a group and is rather inflexible.

Im suggesting something more permanent~
something smaller btw a volunteer and a beginner.
like starting a list of volunteers who won't mind sharing and so the others can run thru the list and ask for mentorship or help.
well I don't know how many unselfish pple there are then.
:)

2nd this suggestion. A good book with details on the basic equipment knowledge and composition.

For newbies and/or keen learners, I've seen Azure organising Learners' Outings, sans the equipment comparisons. Do check out here, here and here for the Learners' Outings that were organised recently

Do look out for upcoming outings in Gatherings and Outings forum! :)

Hi Blazegal,

You can keep a look out for the Learners' Outings by Azure. I have attended them and has learned a lot. :)

Here are the links to the past outings:

Blazegal, perhaps you can go here: http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?p=3003993 and write down your name. I may want to start a PNS Camera super Basic Session cum outing. :sweatsm:

.... what kind of idea are you having again...
(my point & shoot died on me last wk..)

beam me e details. I'll think about it after my last paper

second this recommendation. books by john shaw are pretty good as well.

borrow from library first lah. only buy if you like it and want to keep referring, that way you can save the money for the books you really want. photo books can be expensive.
