Just thought i might share my slight research done in buying my pixma i4200
generally its not good to spend too much into printer since u very well know that these are blood sucking companies tryng to run a long run profit into every set u pay. Seriously u pay more for the ink then the printer itself.
Firstly unless u desperately need a photocopier and scanner, never get a all in one. You will sacrifice quality for function. A dedicated printer is also easier to dispose off to get a new one once u reached the economical limit of each printer (where ink refills bought exceed much more than what u pay for the printer)
Quality wise, canon offers the pixma series with 1 pico litter ink droplet and 9600X2400 resolution which is a first in the industry. HP on the other hand offers 6 colour printers. But i was told that other printers actually mixes ink to achieve 6 colour using algorithm too, so its rather redundant to have 6 catridges to pay for !!. Epson is again a usual pain in the neck with the most complians. In my opinion and after chatting with many vendors especially the friendly ink ladies at SGink, canon would be a much better choice followed by HP.
rule of thumb... more printing quality less frills (LCD monitor, scanning, photocopy.. ) that will be a better choice! resolution, accurate reproduction of colours, bordless printing, ...
Warning though. Those suckers at canon now installs prismatic ink detection device with microchips recording usage on every cartridge. Illegal refills will be detected and possibly result in void of warranty if illegal refills are made.. ( what the heck just refill lol
)
anyway for good quality ink, do check out the friendly vendors at SGink at simlim... can ask them for unbiased opinions too
my 2 cents worth ... hope it helps
