Hi,

When I installed the Canon battery grip to the 400D Camera, how many canon battery can I fit in? 2 battery inside the battery grip and 1 battery to the camera body itself? or once i fit in the battery grip, I can only put two battery?

Can I fit in two different 3rd party battery into the battery grip? One is from the 3rd party battery bought from Digital Point and the other from Camera Device? Will it spoilt the battery grip or camera itself?

Which canon battery grip is for Canon 400D DSLR Camera? Thanks.

Regards,

The battery grip you're looking for is the BG-E3.

2 batteries total - both into the battery grip. If you notice the structure of the BG-E3, it actually is meant to be inserted into the battery slot in your camera.

As for batteries...

There's a reason why its always said not to mix 2 batteries of different brands.

anyone done it before and nothing has happen?

Many of us here (myself included) mix batteries in the grip with no problem :)

original + third party battery

or different third party battery + different third party battery?

if both can, then that will be great...haha:bsmilie:

can share what's the reason?

yup. agree with them. i myself is a 400D user. i've been mixing batt like crazy n the unit still nothing happen :)

most problems with mixing batteries usually occur on alkaline or similar batteries, due to the imbalance in power supplied. This can cause one of the batteries to wear off faster or over-discharge and leak.. that's y companies will also advise against placing 1 new batt and 1 old batt together. The problem is less prominent now, but still possible.

On the cameras we use Li-Ion, which have a chip inside to prevent over-discharging, so i think as long as the current and voltages of the batteries are the same there shouldn't be a prob... no guarantees though...

anyhow mix also can.. :sweatsm:
But lately, I only put 1 battery in the grip.. My primary intent of the grip is for vertical shots and to allow me to attach the hand strap.. 1 battery is lighter  anyway 1 battery can last a long time.. do you really need 2 batteries :) It is also easier to know which to charge as I only have 2 batteries total... so one is out of action, put in the other while charge the old :p

Yeah, theoritically they say we should not mix because of the internal resistance of the sources( Batteries) are diffirent..So the currents distribute diffirent inside the batteries. It could cause the batteries super hot..But I also mix my batteries..:D..I mix all type..anyhow take 4 AA to use although they are totally not the same..:D..UNtil now no problem, no heat so I boh chap..

two batteries can last for how long? is there any charger that can charge two battery at one go?

well.. for a 400D and original batt.... a single batt should last u at least 300 pics under normal usage.. according to dpreview, canon reports their battery life as up to 500 shots, but this is prob just shooting without using the lcd and flash...

a single batt should be more than enough for you... like miniUltraman, i just use the grip for vertical shots, and 1 batt is usually more than enough for a day of shooting, and i always carry spare powerex batts around in case there isn't a place to charge (very useful for trips in secluded areas)...

i haven't seen chargers that can charge 2 though... but charging is pretty quick, so unless u have no access to charging points for really long periods, there shouldn't be a prob..
