Alternative for Ricoh GRD, Canon G7, etc..

hi pple, was wondering if u all would like to give mi some advice regarding compact cameras of the above class.
have been shooting wif a dslr for a few months, was actually thinking long and hard abt getting a compact to bring around wif mi too.
at furz when the G7 was announced, i thought it was a good choice, until i realised that they didn't have RAW, and some other cons too.
i went to John 3:16, and this nice indian guy intro to mi the Ricoh GRD. i thought it was rather good.
would anyone like to comment or recommend another compact camera of that class?

Nikon P5000, Panasonic LX2 are worth considering.

i'll check out the nikon. was considering the panasonic, (and it's brother/sister the leica). the guy at john 3:16 said the ricoh's image quality was better. any comments?

the Gx100 isn't exactly a replacement or an update of the GRD rite? hmmz..are the image sensors the same? worried that the quality wun be the same.

imho its far off... tried it for a while at the IT show, shutter lag is pathetic and also file write time for TIFF is crazy on my kingston elite pro. :sweat:

when it comes to night shot, i wun say which 1 is better, it depends largely on your setting if you can handheld at low speed with the help of stabliser, the lx might have an edge since the GR lack a stabliser (ISO perform might be better tho)
and at daylight lx really perform well, even if GR is better, it probably be not much different unless you printing giant size

for me i take LX2 for its lower price, wide angle zoom lens, OIS. the only disadvantage for me would be probably be just noisier sensor and also no dial unlike GRD.

I believe lx2 is going at 600+ at some shop.
As for dial, the GRD have a tiny dial at the back of the camera which you use it to adjust aperture/shutter, but on LX you can only adjust them using the direction pad

oh..okae.. i see wat u mean.. i guess i'm quite accustomed to that as i'm using a dslr. i guess that might be a little erm..troublesome.

any comments on the leica? dlux 3 i think

not sure, haven got any chance to touch it... but should be 95% the same. As a consumer I would save the $. :bsmilie:

If only the Fuji F31fd has a hotshoe, it will make my day. Take great pictures. Tried GRD and G6 both are desirable if I got extra cash. Haven't got any chance to try G7 or p5000 so I can't say. Howver, looking at specs alone, G7 looks better on paper.

yeah..the G7 is actually not bad, however, a major downside is the lack of raw.. which i find it quite ironic, as the g7 seems to be targeted at the amateur photographer crowd, who are the ones who will shoot in raw.

i seem to hear from somewhere on this forum that the s80 has been discontinued.. as in they dun have stock blahblah.. and dunno if they'll bring in anymore. hmmz..the s70 is rather old rite?
