Hi to all LCD experts,

I am currently looking to buy a 19" LCD to replace my big and bulky 19" CRT and probably need a few advice from the experts here. Can anyone recommend me any good LCD models for image editing? My budget is around S$500~550.

Please help. Thanks.

Cheers

PS: Right now, I am torn between the ViewSonic VX2025vm and the LG Flatron L2000C. Both meet my specs (except for price) but the Viewsonic sort of have a green cast (maybe the set on display at Sim Lim is a faulty one) and the LG isn't a wide display.

Is the ViewSonic the 19" VX2025vm the same one as the ViewSonic 19" Widescreen MulitMedia LCD Monitor? Saw it at Courts Tampines selling for $348/-. I'm eyeing it but not sure if it's good enough for photo editing.
Anyonw can help?

I think that's a different model. The VX2025 is currently selling for about S$599 if I remembered correctly. :)

Hi Hazmee, got myself a Philips 19" LCD last sat in Sim Lim Square. for $329. Since you got higher buget you can go for even bigger monitor. Currently Sim Lim and Samsung are running promotion till 1st April.

I had asked some advice before i purchased. http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=266931

Forgot to mention i got a Philips 190CW model. :)
Heya ricky, thanks for the recommendation. I am looking for a monitor with a viewing angle of 178 degrees but Philips don't seem to have any models with that kind of specification. Its quite important for my kind work. But looking at the specs, it seems like a good buy for a wide screen. Thanks anyway. Cheers!

Hey all,

I just got myself a Viewsonic VX2025vm. I have a problem though. I have ONE dead pixel which is somewhere in the centre. Kind of an eyesore. For those who use this monitor, what is the warranty like for this?

I have this another problem where my LCD screen intermittently switches off and on when I use the 1680 by 1050 resolution but on other resolution it works normal. Could it be my graphics card giving the problems?

Cheers

Hmm... no much response.

I check my LCD monitor again, apparently its a stuck Red pixel. sigh....

For the green cast, or other, you will probably need to colour-calibrate the monitor using an appropriate tool. This will anyway be necessary to have colours that begin to approach those in your final prints.

i bought a 19" LG monitor. very good. and gurantee 0dead pixel for 3 years... and as long 1 pops out, you can bring to the service centre and change a new set. it looks good on my table also... :bsmilie:

with the budget, get the 20"... most 19" are only 6-bits panel... while most 20" are 8-bits... (at least the few 19" models from LG/Samsung/viewsonic are 6bits, while their 20" are 8...)
LG/Samsung/viewsonic will do fine. ;)

Thanks guys for the tips! Really appreciate it.

I managed to replace my problematic monitor with a new one. No stuck pixels (phew!) this time however, I have a problem with my DVI though. For certain colors (especially in greenish gray) there's this random white spots going in frenzy. It gets a bit obvious when I am watching videos. I don't get this in Analog mode. Could it be my graphics card or is this monitor of mine another dud? I am using a GeForce FX 5700 btw.

I'm seeking your expert opinion on this. Thanks.

I think that wide screen monitors aren't that suitable for editing of portrait oriented photos. Am still trying to find a big screen normal format monitor....the largest so far is the 21.3" Samsung one... Any recommendations?

you can said that, but on the other hand a 4:3 normal monitor will give you much smaller viewing size for landscape format photo...
same as
wide - Movie
normal - gaming...

True, but for myself, 99% of the photographs I shoot is in portrait format. So I'm still trying to find a normal format monitor which is big.

By the way, can games adapt to the wide format? Or will everything appear stretched (yucks).

some game developer have adopt the format(yet still maintain the normal format as well), while some are still stuck in 4:3...

Where did you managed to get this legendary monitor? It's sold out everywhere and discontinued!

I got it from Fuwell at Sim Lim Square 3 days ago. I think they have stock but please do check thoroughly before making the purchase.

Its a great monitor to do image editing just that my graphics card isn't up to scratch for the native resolution. Cheers!

wanted to get the same monitor - decided to wait till the crt conks out

if not playing games i think any entry level graphis these days will do
