Apple desktops and notebooks...

I am seriously considering to buy a Apple desktop or notebook, but what I would like to know from Apple users whether do you guys honestly think that the price that you paid for the notebook or desktop was worth the price for what you paid for?

I would seriously want to know the reason(s) why do you feel that the price you paid was worth the money.

I switched from PC to Mac 6 years ago when the 2nd generation iMac was launched and I've been hooked ever since. I currently am still using the iMac and have just purchased the 2x2.66 GHz dual core Mac Pro with the 23" HD cinema display.

I will never switched back because:
1. Aesthetically, my Macs are way better looking than any PCs out there (I'm a sucker for beautiful things)
2. Mac OSX is way earsier to use than Windows OS (don't no about the lastest Windows OS though).
3. I have never had to worry about any viruses or spyware for the last 6 years! This is something that will make me choose the Mac over the PC anytime of the week.

Of course it's worth it.
1. Graphics are great
2. Easy to use, don't need to worry about viruses
3. Easy syncing of computer and mobile phone calenders and contacts

I'm using windows now and I'm making the switch to mac when I go to uni in a few months... i've used my bro's mac and it's really intuitive... very easy to use.. and no viruses...

best, u can install 2 OS on the same comp, and if u use parallels desktop u don't have to worry about windows crashing.. just close and reopen the program....no need to reboot..

Bought a Powerbook G4 in 2003 and it hasn't gone bonkers or had any visit for repairs since day one. In fact, the laptop has been dropped from table height once. Nothing happened except that the latch doesn't work as well as it did new. :bsmilie:

I also switched from PC to Mac 3 years ago & it's still running strong..

But before you run out & get yourself one, you need to seriously think about what you're going to use it for..

- Will you use it for home mainly web-browsing, email, photos/songs/video management, Photoshop?

- Are you a hardcore gamer / .net programmer / MS Excel, Word, PP VB user?

If you are the latter then you might be better off with a PC.. else you'd definitely enjoy the experience of using a mac..

ibook g4 can only run windows under emulation. speed will be very slow.

Erm.. parallel meaning file/printer/network sharing or running windoze OS through Virtual PC on the iBook?

If you mean running VPC then definitely maximum RAM helps.. but don't expect to run graphic-intensive applications.. it'll definitely run slooooooowwww even if VPC doesn't hang..

If you mean file/printer/network sharing then so far I've yet to face any problems at home with 1 Windoze Desktop, 1 Laptop and 1 iBook.

the g4 chip will not allow u to run windows. if u wanna do so, u have to get at least the macbooks with the intel chip

here's one reason why i do. i bought some educational CDs from my kids that run on windows. found that a few of the titles could not work on windows xp. since i didnt want to go thru the trouble of installing windows 98 on my pc, i popped the cd into my mac and let my kids access the software on windows 98 in virtual pc emulation. macs to the rescue! :bsmilie:

as much as i love a mac... some programs still remain incompatible... so i'd use windows when i absolutely have to...

and running 2 at the same time allows u to get all the advantages of both OS... some people go even further... my bro runs windows and linux on a mac simultaneously using parallels, and hasn't had much problems...

Cost shouldn't be the main factor when making a decision to choose between Window / Mac.. Should consider the purpose of it 1st, if not definitely will bring more headache when you realise some things can be done on PC more effectively than on the Mac..

But I guess for current Intel-Macs, you could just dual-boot and work on both platforms when necessary..

Mac user here. If you really compare the specs of the Mac desktop/laptop with a similar Windoze desktop/laptop, the price is almost the same. The only thing is that there is really no super cheapo and bare minimum kinda computer you can find on the Mac. The lowest you can go is a Macbook or a Mac Mini, which is actually just right for most normal use anyway.

Like some of the people mentioned, using Mac is fun and intuitive, but if you need to use more specialized software like some engineering or programming software, you might not be able to find a Mac version for it. But anyway, since the new Intel Macs can dual boot Windoze, this actually isn't a very big problem.

Well, in summary, you will not be wrong getting a Mac lar...

I say, mac is the best! Used to be a pc-user but switched on mac for so long.
Have no regrets. Saves you a lot of headaches from pc's turbulent world!
