Hi All:

I would like to try out macro photography using closeup filters, mainly to shoot butterflies and flowers. May I know what is the recommended closeup filter to get if I would like to put it on my Nikon D80 kit lens?

Thank you very much.

You can get close-up filters from CP. There are different values of magnification in the filters (eg. 2X, 4X, etc). Know what you want before getting, but I would rather get a dedicated Macro lens.

which is cheaper? macro filter or macro lens?

Of course filter is cheaper but effect wise it's quite different. Do a search on the web, there should be some articles on this.

Do note that your lens end is quite large? 72mm thread? If so, most close up filters has smaller thread e.g. Nikon 6T-62mm. You will have to try and see if there is severe vignetting. I tried using the Raynox 250, and confirm that has alot of vignetting.
