Choosing a pc notebook

can anyone recommend a notebook which can be used for both office work as well as editing photos? unfortunately, i'm not used to macs os or i'd get one.
also, since i want a notebook cos i want to be mobile, it can't be those desktop replacements....

I got a laptop from lenovo model 2623A24 which is a tad higher then those entry level system.

Wanted to get the T60P but its just too expensive already, guess not able to own it in this lifetime:cry:

Or are you talking about that old old offer a while back.. Which I took advantage of? =D 1.6 Celeron processors are a pain in the ass when you're trying to run Photoshop, hehe.

Something that caters to his needs, would provide him with the most utility. If not like making mountain out of molehill.

Honestly speaking, if you want performance, you should get a Dell Desktop.,
I'm using one which i customized myself, and it's $2700+ bundled with :

* Windows Vista Ultimate
*2GB of ram
*320 GB Harddisk
*Microsoft office 2007
*19 inch "ultrasharp" screen

etc...

If you really, badly need portablilty, get a laptop. If not, a desktop will be good.

P.S . You can go and customize a computer to your liking, like choosing your RAM, Harddisk size, chip, programs, and when you receive it, it's all ready-to-use. They install it for you :thumbsup:

So which spec is more important if the notebook is use mainly for photo editing? The CPU and Ram? Is 2Ghz and 2GB enough? Does having a dedicated graphic card make any difference?

I'm also looking for a notebook for the above purpose, but i'll only buy when i start school in aug, so will still have some time to look around.

I just got one for sch during the IT show with 2Ghz and 2GB, its fairly fast with CS2 and LR plus Picture project running together.

You would want to get the best screen available on the market if you want to do photo editing, if money is not a problem, get the one from Lenovo, So far I check no other laptop comes close to it screen.

honestly, if it's only for photo editting you dun need a dedicated graphics card
the internal 950 provided by intel should be alrite..
what you need though.. is a pwerful enough processing power and a sizable hdd.. processing power to render yr filters and the hdd for yr scratch disk.
the core 2 duo shud be enuf.. and maybe 60gb+ for hdd.
if 60 is not enough, or extra gb is too expensive, get an external one..
these should be your fundamental criteria..

next think abt the screen.. mainstream is 14.1 or 15.4, but im beginning to think 13.3 is actually big enuf. im using a 14.1 btw. anw, nowadays most notebooks come w glossy screen, so.. nt much of a choice there. some ppl say matte is better cause u can compare true black. this is one of the reasons why macbook pro uses matte. next is how light you want it to be, and rem ur screen size will form a straight correlation with the weight.. oh but the smaller they are.. the more expensive.. haha.

i say u probably can get one below 2k. go for mainstream size, and use xp. u dun nd vista, cause xp seems to be featuring the same stuff vista has (uglier, but nonetheless the same). try look at compaq, hp, lenovo - they're normally budget friendly. please stay away fr acer. and if you want more guarantee.. consider asus, samsung, fujitsu..

just a point to add, a laptop usually cost much more than desktop, and that you can't upgrade it anyway.

Thanks for the advice. I was actually considering Hp dv 2000 series or the asus A8j? i think. I know Hp's support is :thumbsup: , but what about asus? Are their screens good? I actually quite like the mac book pro (brain screen n card), but it uses Mac OS and its freaking EX!

nope, those screen resolution are rubbish.

look for screen with min 1400x1050 and above to have a comfortable viewing of the LCD.
