hi,

newbie here, like to know what equipment shld i use for sch events like speech day, stdt leaders investiture?

thanks:)

ladder for what? i am asking about camera equip!!! like lens/ flash / primelens or wat so ever

Use a flash, if indoors, a wide angle and a tele if you have one. Will cover EVERYTHING. Even better if you have a 18-200mm lens. But usually i'll use a tele unless I can get close enough to the subject. Usually these events will produce boring but necessary shots like the p giving a speech or prize presentation. So use your imagination and come up with different angle for these shots and make sure you can capture the expression of the speaker, which is why i use a tele. Not every photo must be vertical or horizontal. Have fun!

Thanks nkhoo for your comments, btw hw much does tat lens cost?

What equipment your sch have?

you will need a canon body with 70-200 f2.8 lens. if not nikon system at worst.

thats what I will try to get to shoot the event,

More then enough already, a WA 17-35 or 17-55 is very good already.

Check with them whether you can take two body, one attached with 70-200 and another one with 17-35/55

no harm asking

ihub88, y u sae nikon system at worst? curious to know, hope u dun mind :)

wow, where did you get the impression that his sch got 17-35, 17-55 and also 70-200? if they have, seriously they should just consider getting few SBs...

they kill me men!!! a few SB600! i can even tell u their reply! u buy and donate to the school!!!!
haha too bad... but i muz say those will come in more useful than a f2.8 lens...

your sch is confirm rich enough to get a few ba, at most $900 for 3 set IIRC

good ISO control at 3200 as compare to nikon.

you try use your sch D80 at ISO3200 and have a look.

you may just shoot without flash with natural lighting. also quite nice.

what about cooperating with the ava to ask them to leave the lights all on? would it be better? (i am frm infocomm n foto n ava is all together)

Not all... just enough to get a good exposure. Too bright and you'll have headaches too.... Do try shooting some practise shots first. Get them to do a practise run-thru...

From past experience, even with all the light on on stage, i dun know about how powerful your school's stage lights are, most stages are too dark to shoot without flash. Unless of course you shoot at iso 800, 1600 with f2.8 and bigger. I use a 17-50 2.8 and a 70-200 f4. Of course the 70-200 f2.8 is  but i got no $$ and the weight is a killer :hung:. End of the day, make do with what you have. If your lens not big enough, use flash, high iso. If your lens is big enough, then skip the flash and use ambient light and high iso.

Remember, if your pictures are not sharp, most of the time you and your school will have no use for them. Also, please convert your file from 72 dpi to 300 dpi during post processing. This will enable your school to send them direct to the printer for your newsletters and year book for printing at your image's highest resolution.

Thanks for ur help i will try my best with what all of you have said n i will go on the rehersal dae itself to shoot......

if the school has money to fund for 3 D80 systems. i dun see why they can't afford a fast lens like a 80-200 2.8 or a couple of flash system

well you just have to convince the school to allocate more funds to get some SB600s, which will come in very useful.

D80 kit lens offers decent range. with flash it will work well for school events so dun worry!
