My first model shoot. So I just shoot and hope to learn something. Well there were a few pros around, none of them said anything about the nose stud. If you really don't like it, I clone it off lor. The white dots on the lips are sweat drops I believe. I made a mistake in not resolving.

I've only been taking photos for 6 months. I am entirely self-taught at the moment, including photoshop.

DP I don't want to make it sound offensive, but I feel you are overly critical whenever some newcomers post something which in turns puts off some of them (some of my friends hesitate to post photos in CS). Everybody has to start somewhere. If everybody post something that looks so professional, how do you discern something good. I believe I am not the only newbie who feels this way. However, I'm going to be BHB despite this. I'll post more. :bsmilie:

Tuglaq: I agree a bit more contrast would have been good. But I'm still learning how to make it look natural without looking oversaturated. Maybe getting my LCD calibrated might help.

Personally think that nose stud will cause the audience to be distracted, hence stealing away attention from the subject's eyes. I usually will PS them away...

Hi James,

I like your shots. At least you've got the head-room, etc sorted out. However, they are all head and head/shoulder shots. Shoot more and experiment with different angles and bg. Observe how the masters do it. For color and saturation, you must look up Jia Wang. He's got fantastic skin tones and colors, I feel. For composition, look up Will03, our most celebrated portraits and poses photog. Eventually, you will find your own style that you are happy with.
