shooting friends this weekend (need help)

i have
2 x 500watts studio flash
1 x soft box rectangular
1 x soft box octagonal (BIG)
a set of honeycombs
a couple of big reflectors
9 feet backdrop.

i need to shoot about 4-5 pax.
casual informal shoot.

intend to do half body instead of full.

i have a couch that sits 2.the rest should be standing.

what's the best way to shoot them?
i need advise on light placement.

any advise please?

anyway u already know what u wanted... 2 sitting, 3 standing... rest is up to your creativity. but then 1/2 body shot, u think ppl will see if they are sitting?

as for your flashes, 500w isn't really powerful, and moreover, u got 2 with different effect. i think the easiest setup i could think is use the rectangle 1 on a high stand overhead 45degree down on the chair giving a wider spectrum since its 1/2 body, then the octagon 1 as fill in from either side.

The best way is to invite other photographers along for TFCD.

yes i have.minolta autometer 4.very old liao but still do the trick.

i notice it tends to give slightly overexpose by a stop, compared to my friend's sekonic L-dunno-what.:dunno:

easiest way is with 2 umbrellas for nice soft even light
if you try to be too creative with your lighting

it might be right for one but bad for another person
so create problems for you to solve

send your meter for servicing... else if u know its consistent, then u just under 1 stop everytime...

after thinking, since with my suggestion of putting the light 45degree up, you can also put the reflector on the floor to direct some light back up... since its 1/2 body.

There are 2 option:
A.
1. Place 1 500W/s (full power) w BIG soft box octagonal as the main light, position i.e on the right side between you & object (but closer to you).
2. Place your couple of big reflectors (I hope white color) on left side (close to object), act as fill light.
3. Place the other 500W/s w soft box rectangular as hair light on the left side, behind object.

B.
1. Place 1 500W/s w soft box rectangular above your camera +/- 1m as the main light
2. Place your couple of big reflectors below between you & object close to object.
3. Place 1 500W/s w BIG soft box octagonal above - behind object (you must use boom light) as hair light.

Actually difficult to explain. The best way is I draw the lighting placement, or we must meet lah.
