Hi, if i am just a casual photographer with interest in mainly landscape and sometimes candid shots of people, which cam should i choose between the two? I already own a 400D, 16 - 35mm F2.8 L and 70 - 300mm 4.5-5.6 DO IS USM..

If you really are a casual shooter I'd suggest a second hand 5D if you like the wide-angles. The 1 series is much more expensive and has features you do not really need (like 10fps). Plus the 5D has one of the best noise controls so far and it would be great for street shoots where you use ambient.

Then again the 400D is less conspicuous and if you do not really need the wideangles I'd keep the cash.

If you are just a casual shooter, then I would think that the 1DMkIII would be overkill. A 5D would be a better choice with its smaller body and full frame sensor that can make full use of your 16-35mm f/2.8L. Use the difference to get a fast telephoto lens for those candid shots.

you mentioned landscape?
It gonna be a 5D then.

Thanks to all for your kind advice, as i am not too sure how i would make full use of the 10fps feature; i was quite uncertain of what the choice would be. There's nothing wrong with the 400, when i played with the 5D at CP, i was really "bought over".. especially when i get the full WA of my 16mm.. I was waiting for some annoucement from canon, thot that they would have something to replace the 5D, apparently, it did not.. Thanks again guys..!

judging from specs, i will take 5D.

10fps of the mark3 - this is the digital reincarnation of the classic 1nRS

Thanks again..! Another query would be, should i buy a non warranty 5D or get one from CP at 4380..w/o any freebies? Saw a thread that this is at 3750 without warranty.. An used one in the forum wud be at4100 w/o warranty too.. adv.. adv..?? :) :)

i think 5D too. unless you need to extra boost in ego, which then you should go for 1D III.

5D for your wide, 1D MK III for your zoom.

if you're a casual shooter, why not just stick with the 400D.

will your pictures get better if you upgraded to a 5D?

if u like landscape, FF is definitely the way to go, 5D. plus it has resolution advantage.

Like the rest, I opt for 5D too.

It'll fit into your requirements for casual shooter wanting wider angle.

5D and you will love it.
