Hi, newbie at this site, took this photo while in west australia. I actually spotted the burrow first, took a few seconds before I noticed the lizard sunning itself at the entrance. Comments appreciated, thanks.

you should post in the WON section. you will get replies this way. :)

great picture of the lizard. a few points i would improve:

> composition: the grass or sticks on the right side, they bother me, attracting too much attention by stabbing the lizard... could you have moved the left a bit to avoid them?
> exposure and development: this is situation with very high contrast and large dynamic range.... you got to make a compromise. At the moment it seems that you developed for the shadows, burrow is not fully black, however that leaves blown highlights in the front. the piece of wood and parts of the lizard's body. Given that the lizard is you main focus and not the black hole in the back i would develop for the highlights.
if you take back the exposure a bit, and try to recover the highlights and maybe apply a low contrast curve for the hightlights you will find that there is structure and detail in the sand near the lizard.

Nice expression. Seems a bit over-exposed on the log but still ok. Thanks for sharing.

good attempt at documenting the lizard, not exactly the best angle though.

that's a nice processing, can almost feel the day's heat radiating from this picture already

Thanks all for the comments! Yeah, should have adjusted the exposure settings, will have to see how to process the image using PS (don't have it yet), and do better next time.

Nice processing Del =) original sand was pale but the orange brings a different effect. and yeah, lizard pretty long, but darn fast at running back into its burrow
