Better Bounce Card by Peter Gregg

Was told about this bounce card system by one senior photog and found it very interesting.

Juz wanna share with all CSers about this sites and seek your opinion about it. Has anyone tried this and compared it with other light diffusers and bounce cards?

I bought a Jusbounce card from Sykestang awhile back ;p (ref. here) and am currently using during my wedding shoots (Provided that the celing isn't too high to bounce off). And it works beautifully! I dun see a need to fabricate one (Considerring the amount of time and $$ put in) when one could be bought at S$18.

I guess if you are a casual/weekend photog, then it's ok IMO. Besides, I would not want my clients or possible clients (Thru referrals) saying that the main photog isn't professional (Totally ignoring the equipment) just because of a home-made bounce card! :sweat:

Tested it myself. It's NOT better than a normal bounce card if you have average height ceilings to bounce off.

erm i think that "roof" is just to throw the flash further so lesser power is needed. :dunno:

Throw the flash further? Hmm... I think like that might as well use sliver surface or even use direct with diffuser?

Was wondering if the following application is right for the following situations
- Small confine space --> LS
- A medium sized room with low ceiling --> Omnibounce, LS, Bounce card
- Big room with extremely high ceiling --> Bounce card, omni bounce
- Outdoor (fill flash) --> Bounce card, bounce from reflector
- Events, stage shoot --> bounce card, direct flash

The softer/less shadow look comes from the light bouncing off the ceiling not the light boucing off the reflector and travelling towards the subject. I've done my own tests with normal bounce cards, better bounce card, my own custom bounce card design (curved to use less ceiling bounce and throw even more light forward than a better bounce card, for use with longer lenses in areas where ceiling bouncing won't work), omnibounce, LSII and that's what I've discovered. The light coming off the reflector/LSII/whatever straight at the subject is what softens out the shadows cast by the light being reflected off the ceiling. In that sense there needs to be a balance btw the 2 for the best results.

YH: In my own opinion i think u've almost got it there except outdoor fill flash u can stick with direct flash as well, as long as the flash exposure is balanced well with the ambient exposure (really fill and not blast, ). I also probably won't use an omnibounce if I won't even consider using a LS. It kills even more light and firing it directly doesn't really help that much.

if you want soft, might as well take off the "roof" and just let it bounce on the celling, that will definitely make it softer.
