It depends on the context you use it. In terms of using it as a racial slur, then it is a derogatory term. Sorry if you misconstrue it any other way, but thanks for the heads up.

Like I said, it depends on the context. Often if somebody of the same race uses it, somehow it doesn't carry the same implications . Do you know that african americans call each other niggers as a sign of greeting? Just like 'homeboy'. However if a white man were to use it.....
