hello, just got the tamron 28-75 f2.8 today... still very inexperienced, so hoping anyone can help to see whether my copy is ok... or rather, performing as expected..

here are reviews im judging my lens upon..

photozone:

bob atkins:

100% centre crops (focus point just above the white oval sticker):

28mm f2.8, 28mm f4

28mm f5.6, 28mm f8

28mmf5.jpg

this lens known to be softer @ 28mm wide open, but by f4 supposed to sharpen a lot..

50mm f2.8, 50mm f4

50mmf2.jpg

75mm f2.8, 75mm f4

75mmf2.jpg

similarly for 50mm & 75mm, sharpness supposed to improve from f2.8 to f4 (though not so drastic)..

erm.. so is my lens' sharpness to par? or is there something wrong?

100% corner crops of newspaper shots:

I think you are expecting the worst.

You hare hoping for justification of your purchase.

You have a GOOD lens. Go out and use it for what you can get from you and it.

Come back with some REAL photo's.

Cheers :)

would it be correct for me to say that chromatic abberation is usually at its worst wide open ?(meaning f2.8)
so if this is ok, that means most probably when i stop down it should improve?

I would say it looks pretty respectable to me. Before you test for sharpness, you should test for front/back-focusing first, as this may be the cause of any blur.

i'm not exactly expecting the worse.. i'm not sure how to evaluate the lens.. so im wondering whether i got a decent copy..
if quality is under par, then i guess i'll have to send it back..
if it's fine, then i'm more than glad to keep it.. :D

checked already.. :D that's one of the first things i checked at the shop.. ;p

What is performing as expected?? If you've bought a lens specially to take photos of a bottle of correction fluid then yah, I think its performing as expected. You got pictures of a bottle of correction fluid.......

erm.. there's nothing interesting in my house? and i just wanted to check the lens, that's all.. sorry if i upset u..

Hi skipio,
Your lens is a sharp copy. I could not see the chromatic abberation ..What pablo meant you should go and shoot and find problem mah.Test shoot tell you everything but yet nothing..Don't just rely on the test to evaluate your lens..You try to shoot with your lens first then tell us any problem with image..Nah..I am not an expert ah..but can trust me on the abberation because I worked on lenses before ( not lense for light but it's magnetic lens..)

thanks for your reply! :D

yea, will be going to shoot in a couple of days (schooling).. just that i got it today, so want test the lens today..

erm.. another reason why i seem very kanchiong to check my lens is because its more than a year's worth of my savings...

thanks kelccm and newmemberz.. i want it to be a keeper too! :D

for a center crops, thats very good. yes no doubt a little soft at f2.8 like what most review have wrote, but it is more than enough for even big print.

Looks fine to me. Any reason why you have any doubts after the purchase? My suggestion is to just go ahead and enjoy your lens. :)
